Looking at these posts about break-in periods reminds me of the slug in the dirty shirt walking out the garage door with a greasy red rag in one hand and a beer in the other. In case you haven't heard, this is the 21st Century, and there are lawyers and consumer groups that make a living taking your little cheat factories down. They can cut through all the "it was the install - no - it might be the part - no - it was the break-in" B.S. Think Ford's in bad shape now? Wait 'til I get finished with 'em.

Dude answer my question. Did you break the gears in properly or did you do as I think you did and hammer on them from day one??
All the Lawyers in the world cannot fix the FACT that new gears require a proper break in period.

Ooooh, I bet they're so scared of you!! Yeah, go teach them a lesson! LOL!

I've got news for you, many years ago my wife and I got stranded in a mall parking lot when our brand new car developed an ignition problem. She was 7 months pregnant and it was summertime. We were there for an hour before the tow truck finally arrived. And no, this car wasn't a Mustang, it was a Honda Accord. If you think an Acura, or any car, is 100% perfect and trouble-free; you're incorrect. So, do you think I jumped up and down and screamed about it like you're doing? No, we just took it in and got it fixed. Cars are mechanical, and with anything mechanical things can and will go wrong. You can let it ruin your attitude about life, or you can get it fixed and move on.

OK -- the long-awaited call from the Ford Dealer has arrived. If I keep the 90mm Cold Air, the headers and the repaired 3.73 rear end they will give me a 2-year written warranty. There were some on here that were helpful, others not so helpful, but the input has helped me decide to keep the mods on the vehicle instead of insisting that they rip all the s*** out. The Service Advisor seems to be happy that I have expressed enough confidence in her to do this. And, she's young and hot....(but, I'm old and not).

Interesting thread. The only thing I will offer (although too late) - your first mistake was having it towed to the same dealership. Ford warranty is valid at ANY ford dealership. You should have had it towed to the NEAREST dealership and had the rear end inspected by them and then you would have had a ford professional evaluation to help back up your claim the install was at fault. I too am 99% sure (from what you've described) it was the installation but good luck to you at the dealership.

It doesn't matter to me whether it was the install or not. It was towed back to the dealer who sold me the vehicle, ordered the parts and performed all the service under FORD'S NAME. Do I have to hire Inspector Clouseau to beat up the tech who did the work to find out the truth about the install? I'm not disagreeing that it was or wasn't the install, I'm just saying that it was all done under the name of FORD, and that "FORD" is treating me a lot different now than when they sold me the vehicle, the parts and the service. The fact is that Mustangs were MADE TO BE MODIFIED, and a modification should IMPROVE the car, NOT cause it to beak down while you're out on a date. After all, it's a brand new car!!!!

first off you can throw that its A NEW CAR out the window. Brand New cars off the lot have things happen, sometimes thats just life, thats why you have a warrenty. Not sure if it covers your problem, but if it does dont worry about it. BUt if you think because you buy a brand new Acrua and think nothing will happen to it, your mistaken.

This is SUCH BS !!

A dealer sells Ford Products and services them. This does not make them ford...I bet that same Ford dealer dells NON-ford products too...

Bottom line is when you modify a car, you risk reliability issues....We don't even KNOW how you drove it

Most people buying performance parts don't turn around and "baby" the car..Let's face it, you were beating the hell out of the car and you broke it.

Deal with it !!!

You need to be realistic there. You took your new car and added several high performance parts.
They installed the ring-and-pinion incorrectly and the rear-end blew. It should be covered by warranty from the dealer.

What does this have to do with the reliability of a new Mustang? The parts that blew were FRRP, not stock.
I would be upset but really you need to stop over-reacting. If I blow my motor because of my blower I am not going to jump up and down crying that my Mustang sucks. Stuff happens and when you add on HIPO parts it is even more likeley to happen.
Your reaction shows that you really do not understand the way these things are. First muscle car? Maybe you would be happier with an Acura, because nobody mods those lil rice pupies!

My dealer installed my 3.73 and I am quite happy with it. In fact the tech that did it probably knows more about the 8.8 rear-end and the new designed gears than any local speed shop. They did it corrctly using the proper new shim kit and bearings.
If it is installed right it will be noise free and reliable. When thiongs are not done correctly they can fail. There are also defective parts occasionally. You need to speak to the dealer in a mature and calm manner, not like a little boy who is all emotion and no logic.
Do they have a drag pack for automatics because the last time I looked there was only one for manual trans and that included a Hurst shifter.

When I got my GT the next day at 114 miles with no mods going 60 with the cruise on my rear end went for no aparent reason. They towed it and 3 days later it was fine with a new rear end. Stuff happens and they fixed it and have been happy since. That was Sept. 05.. Brand new parts can fail or it was put together wrong on the line. Sucked at the time, but I got over it.

Goes to show how much you know! 3 paragraphs of bull and you don't even know about the Drag Pack for 2006 Automatics. Do your homework before trying to impress anyone. You CAN'T POSSIBLY be a Mustang owner, as ANY 'Stang owner would know what's out there.

I have owned 5 Mustangs. 68 K code GT, 69 Mach 1 428 CJ,85 5.0 GT vert, 86 5.0 LX vert and a 87 5.0 GT vert.
I have also owned lots of GM muscle cars (66 GTO 389 sixpack, 67 GTO 400 H.O., 69 Firebird 400, 69 Camaro Z-28 /RS)
I was racing cars in 1976, What were you doing then? watching Romper Room? Maybe you weren't hatched yet?
What kind of muscle cars have you owned? Acuras??
You want to compare cars now maybe? I have modded the crap out of my supercharged Mustang and I have not installed one performance part yet that did not improve the 1/4 mile times. How about you? What have you done to your car?
Beside blow up the differential and come on this forum to act like a fool.
I also have the intelligence and high performance automotive knowledge to choose my own performance parts without buying a "package" from FRRP. So I don't frequent the FRRP site to see if they added a new drag pack for autos or not.
I leave that for the technically uneducated, unknowledable and emotionally immature folks like you!
I think you need to do you homework about performance cars - period!

Who's not listening? I already said the dealer and I have now come to an agreement...but you losers want to start with the personal BS. You obviously are all posers and wannabes, because no mechanics are home from their jobs yet and every 'Stang owner is either wrenching or running at 4:30 PM (1:30 PT) on a Tuesday afternoon...unless, of course, all your Mustangs are in the shop, too? Naw, you're just wannabes and posers, wishing you had the bucks for the rides of your dreams, but just posting lame-a** instead. So, so long, chumps, I got the info I wanted here. Sit on your tails and answer with some more snarky s***, I promise I won't be reading any of it.

This guy's a troll all the way. Comes on here with his cry baby girlie man story (wah wah), puts down Ford and Mustangs, and swears he's done reading this thread yet I still see him online here. By definition that's a troll. I wish there was some way of keeping these clowns away. If he's actually for real, kinda makes you wish his rear end would keep blowing out every 250 miles or so until he buys that Acura. Now there's the car of my dreams....GAG!
