Why does it seem that when i punch the gas from a stand still the car starts off slow for just under a second before it kicks in. i understand that this is partly expected from an automatic, but is there anything i can do to improve it?
ive been planning to install the afe intake at the end of this month, how will that help without a tune
It helps some, I used to have it. But it dosent compare to a CAI/Tuner combo. You have to have a tuner tune out all the throttle management on our cars. As for warrenty, it will void the warrenty for the CAI, you can always put it back to stock tune before you take it in for service adn put the stock airbox on it. It takes less than 30 minutes to do the swap if you done it enough times.

Try recalibrating your throttle, turn key on, but don't start engine, just wait till all the sys check lights go off, about 5 to 8 seconds, then slowly press gas pedal all the way to the floor, this means you should have it floored in about 1 to 2 seconds. then let up, take foot off gas pedal, turn key off. Now start your engine, go for alittle drive, your throttle lag should be pretty much gone. This works on stock or after market tunes. This is how the pcu calibrates the rotery transducer (electronic throttle). This is why in the Owners Manual (yes you should read it) it tells you not to push down on the gas pedal when starting your engine. The pcu will get a false signal input and miss calibrate your throttle.

do you have to do it everytime you start your car
No, just every once in a while if you notice the throttle is not responding like it should. I will not be the same as driving a direct link (throttle cable) type throttle. But try it, then just try and remember not to push down on the throttle when your starting the car, thats what throws it out of calibration.

haha na man just as long as you keep your stock airbox and save the stock tune if you use a tuner just reinstall both and they wont notice not that a cai tuner combo would ever mess up your engine ( i dont think )
i went out on my lunch brake and re callibrated the throttle and i can definatly notice the diffrence. before when i punched from a stop it would take a second to kick in. after the adjustment i made a stop at a light, gunned it and i heard that sooting sound of squealing tires. thanks

I have the C&L CAI an XCAL2 and a MRT exhaust, before the CAI and XCAL2 my car would hesitate before it got to rolling, now with just the 87 tune the tire lights up. Major improvement. Warrenty should not be a problem since it only takes 5 minutes to put the factory airbox and reflash it to factory if you are paranoid.

Is this still working for you? I tried it a few times but it never worked for me. Maybe I'm doing it wrong or something but I have never been able to make my tires squeal. Also what is you MPG?

what i had found when i had my untuned AFE setup was that if you are from a stand still, it is better to throttle about 75% instead of 100%, then after a few split seconds, floor it
