Down here in Texas, the legal limit is actually set at 20%. Most reputable Tint shops will sell LLUMAR, which is hands down the only brand of tint you should put on your vehicle. But, 35% is the usual "Legal" limit most shops will tell you. I personally have 5% ALL THE WAY AROUND. Yes, I do have a vert as well, and well it looks soooo sexy when the top is up. I have gotten one ticket for my tint from a local state trooper who seems to hate me........it ran me $100 bucks which in return paid for the tint.....But in all honesty the tint truly does help with the sun issues, even though this is Texas and I was cruising with the top down the past week in the middle of December I just prefer the tint. If I do get another ticket, well then its my fault, I'm breaking the law and I know it. So I just got me a nice little radar to tell me where the cops are so I can just roll my windows down..LoL..(and of course for the occasional speeding).

The legal limit for side window tint in Texas is 25%, not 20%. The tint shop where I had mine done here in the Dallas area recommended 30% since the slight factory tint takes you to about 28% with the 30%, and the tint can actually darken a little as it ages. So I got 30%. You can get the rear as dark as you like as long as you have side mirrors, so I have 15% back there. You can also have the upper part of the windshield tinted to 25%. I have this, too.

I agree on the Llumar. That's what I have, and it looks great.

True.. but some of the posts are classic!

"Get a doctors note for darker tints!' ahahaha, yesss!

...while you are at it, ask him/her to give you a handicapped parking pass because "you recently had acl surgery.." then you could roll up to the front door of anywhere you want AND have black windows..lol.

This is actually incredibly easy here. I've been to three or four or different eye doctors, and none of them have ever questioned it or told me I'm full of crap when I tell them the road glare bothers me and I need that prescription. They do always try to upsell me to the latest-greatest photochromic lenses, but I just tell them those things don't work (they don't).

It's nothing like getting handicapped tags.

^^^ I was joking about the handicapped tags thing.. i made that one up.. there was no previous post on it.. although I'm sure someone has tried..

As for the eye doctor.. I just might try it.. though I am 18.. so I dont know if they will believe I have a problem with road glare.. lol.. she'll just say get some sunglasses (which I will probably and stupidly be wearing on my head..lol)

The only thing I don't like about my 5%.....it IS difficult to see at night, but only when you're in an area where there is not much lights. Certain neighborhoods don't have very many street lights, so the window simply goes down, cold or not.

I haven't been pulled over for illegal tint yet.

What I don't understand.........why is it okay for cop cars to have 5% on the windows?? I see ALL the time. These cars should be placed under the same laws mine is!

Yeah, one of my buddies has 2.5% vlt all the way around.  It looks fantastic!  i don't think he has a problem seeing during the day, but at night he says he needs to drive with the windows all the way down.

I put 20% tint on my door glass and it was too dark for me. When I brought it back to the Tint Shop ... their meter indicated it was actually 9% ... so 20% + Factory Tint come out to 9% ....

Question.

How do they get the window tint to stick in the front windshield when we have that pony and those little black dots at the top of the windsheild?

Wouldn''t that cause it to peel off?

here in NYC cops are a-holes to the fullest. tints are put on for a reason, its to prevent prying eyes from looking in. God forbid a thief looks in and sees the vast goodies inside (gauges, aftermarket headunit, etc.)

That''s what the cop is thinking too.  While you''re reaching under the seat for your handgun.

I agree with the notion that tints shouldn''t really be that big of a deal (I just got my windows tinted yesterday, in fact), but I can certainly see the point of the view that the cops take on the issue, and you can''t really blame them for that.

im not saying mustangs are the most expensive of all cars but i wouldnt imagine a cop having to fear over a guy with a gun in one, unless its stolen. i''d expect that crap in a dirty old toyota or something, but i see where your coming from.

Here in MI. the tint law is basically this - the windows behind you can be as dark as you want, so the back glass and the 1/4 windows can be limo tint if you want them. As for the driver and passenger window they can only be tinted 4" from the top, basically the same thing as the tinted strip on your windsheild.
-P.

Yep, this is what I understand.  I was going to get mine tinted, but now I think not.  The State Police especially will hit you hard....

Wow nobody has answered my question yet on how they get the tint to stick on the front windshield given we have the pony close to the top in the
interior window.

Do they have to take it off or something?
