Default explorer manifold vs stock manifold

what gains will I get if any if I change from the stock 5.0 stang mainfold to the explorer manifold?

also when/if I do the swap do I need to replace the lower and upper or just the upper or what?

is it a direct bolt on?

do I need or should I use the lower to upper spacer?

will it all fit under the hood on my 87 fox

any and all info would be greatly appreciated!

ooohh!!

Nice question! I think that the Expo is a direct bolt on and is about the same as the GT40 intake. Yes it looks different on the outside and yes you can port it for optimumn flow numbers.

Aside from that, I believe that you can just swap them out one for one.

I'd like to hear from the guys who might have better (more technical) answers though.

Just save yourself some money and headache and buy something new. IIRC explorer manifolds dont have some of the ports or bungs or something that we need for our cars to run correctly. IMO its not worth it to go through that much trouble for what little you're going to save.

Yeah, I guess that would be an issue if you were paying something more than $50 for the intake. I mean, you still have the labor to do it and also a new set of intake gaskets. But if you could get the intake in decent shape for less than $50, I would seriously consider it.

well thats my delema.. I could get the intake and plenum for liek 50.00 or less and since I work at a parts store I get the gaskets at cost, but if there is problems (if they wont bolt up and run) I will hold off..

I plan to do a supercharger maybe next year (if funds are available) but untill then I would love to gain as many hp's as I can for the cheeper cost especially if I am gonna have to upgrade the intake for the supercharger anyways

but again if this is not identical and a direct bolt on and turn key, I am not intrested

its a direct bolt on. and no need to worry. If i were you id buy a cobra intake or a edelbrock typhoon, but trick flow is also good. The direct bolt on is a good choice but if u wanted to pull those heads of to they are known as "P" heads. You would need the stock manifolds of the explorer to run your exhaust.

Given your circumstances, I would definitely do it then. It's almost a direct swap, I haven't heard anything about "stuff that won't work" or "bung" issues(..WTF?..). And for the money, it will be worth the increase in flow and exhaust rates. Especially if you can do it for less than $75 total.

That's a gain worth the money right there.

it will rub the insulation off the bottom of your hood.

Yes: you'll need both the upper and lower manifold.

I don't think that you'll have any clearance issues becuase it is almost identical (even the hieght) of the GT40.
