Default Air Bags

We were in an accident with our 2004 anniversary edition Mustang last night and the air bags did not deploy but should have because it was a front end collision. The police officer said if they had deployed that the car would have been totaled by the insurance company. Is there any known problems with the air bag deployment and is what the officer said accurate. We are sore from the seat belts and whip lash but otherwise we are okay.

It all depends where you were hit in the front. If you didn't hit one of the sensors, they will not deploy. I don't know about totaling just for airbag deployment, but they are Very expensive to replace.

i get this question all the time at my shop about air bags and have worked with some of the general motors engineers on a camero with the same thing the owner made a stink about and it is all about the speed, brakeing force, direction of impact, and how the computer in the car reads what is happening. Most of the time you will be glad that the air bags didnt go off because they hurt and they are packed with a powder that when the hot air bag hits you the powder is mashed in your skin and it gives you a rash for a couple of days. on what the officer said all states have different laws on how they handle cars that have srs deployment. but glad to hear your ok! parts on cars can be replaced but your parts cant!
