Your question is too vague. What year, what model/stage, etc... You should study the Saleen and Roush websites individually and you will understand what they are doing to them for the current model year.

If you are curious about a particular year, then tell us and I'm sure someone will chime in.

well someone that i work with said that roush takes the motor out and does a bunch of things to it. What, i dont know. He said he saw a show on it. I didn't think they did that much. Maybe I dont know $h!t about saleen...

To my knowledge, the Roush Stage 1 is an appearance package, stage 2 adds some bolt ons and suspension work, Stage 3 adds a supercharger, upgrades and more bolt ons. No where have I ever seen anything about Roush doing any motor work.

Saleen has the 3 valve which is bolt ons, appearance mods and suspension work, then the SC which has a supercharger and a few more upgrades and bolt ons, then the Extreme which has a worked over motor by Saleen. Roush has nothing even close to the Extreme.

You will get differing opinions on who likes what and why. Get what YOU like and enjoy it! Neither are a bad choice. Make sure you go and check them both out thoroughly. Of course, my signature shows my preference.

Jonsey is right, except the stage 2 roush has no performance upgrades just suspension.

Everyone knows my thoughs about Roush --right jonsey!!

You respect them Cable! You just have an issue with Mach and his attitude is all. I thought the stage 2 had exhaust upgrade?

What is up with that guy. I understand when you work for someone you want to back there product if they treat you right, but it seems he has a vendetta against Saleen. He must have gotton beat by them one to many times. :D

I agree witih David_K, ROUSH barely does anything to their engines besides the Stage 3.[:@] I'd take a Saleen over a Roush any day.:)

Saleen is the only large mustang tuner/upfitter that actually removes the motor. In the Extreme only Saleen installs all forged internals and custom grind camshafts. All Roush mods all bolt-ons regardless of Stage (Sport, stage 2 etc.) Both do their own tuning depending on the mods.

Your right. We are all mustang guys and thats all that matters. I did think hard about getting the roush before my saleen. Its the issue with Mach that I have a problem with.

You may be right about the Stage 2 having exhaust upgrade. I do know the hp for a stage 2 is 300, I thought maybe 305 with the exhaust up grade.

Neither here or there.

My vote is Saleen!!!!

Saleen is also the ONLY OEM mustang tuner. Roush, Cervinis, Ronaele, Steeda, Foose...

Shame personality issues tends to cloud the responses to a request for information .....
Although the SALEEN guys have wieghed in on their opinion on ROUSH and it's staged performance .... sowaxeman put it best .... "You should study the Saleen and Roush websites individually and you will understand what they are doing to them for the current model year. "

I dont think its so much personality issues as is, more people answered the question, Roush does very little up to stage 3. IMO there two different type of cars and really most people who like saleen dont like the looks of roush and vice versa. I think all in all performance wise saleen edges every roush, ie Saleen s281 n/a vs Roushsport,stage1 and stage 2, Saleen s/c s281 vs the Stage 3 and they have nothing to go up against the Saleen extreme

Check the posts. The Saleen guys did not cop an attitude out of the gate. I love 04 Machs passion for his Roush. Its great! He just needs to temper it a bit. imo

I would consider the Roush stage II almost equal to the Saleen S281. Both have body kits, exhaust, suspension, and interior goodies, although they nickel and dime you on the options list. Oh you want pedals? $150, oh you want Stripes? $530, oh you want sport leather seating? $1800.

I think the reason the Saleen s281 gets the nod over the Roush Stage 2 is that there are a few ugrades performance wise to the S281 and I think the fact that there are less saleens in production from year to year that the Saleen holds its vaule a little better, also IMO that people say the roush holds the retro look ford was looking for is the reason why they love the roush,IMO I think the saleen seprerates itself from the rest with its style,if I wanted the mustang GT style with a bunch of fake plastic pieaces I would of got a roush.

I believe they make less roush's per year than the saleens.

Correction S281E - they make FAR more Roush cars in a model year than Saleens.

As you can see..there are far more saleens on this site, so the opinion is gonna sway that way. I agree with the person that said research it yourself. I love my Stage 3 Roush...I also like some of the saleens. Now in regards to who compared the Stage 3 to the supercharged Saleen....one thing to look at, look at both the supercharger kits and see who takes more pride in theirs. But, either way...Saleens and Roushs...both awesome attention-getting mustangs

I think that saleen does, I think if you took a poll of what s/c they have on there mustang, minus the saleen s/c and the roush stage 3 since we know which ones they have you will see more people choose Saleen over Roush when it comes to s/c on there stangs of course we are talking 05/06 stangs.

Yes Roush makes anywhere from 2000 to 2500 roush saleen only makes maybe 1200-1400 this year, thats a big difference when you are talking limited production cars.

I think some people may thing there are more saleens out there because next to the cobra the saleen is copied more.

My mistake. I was looking at an early post and it seemed they only made a couple hundred. I was not aware it was 2500.

Currently Saleen is the only mustang tuner THAT REMOVES THE ENGINE and only in the Extreme.
They remove the engine, install all forged internals and special gind camshafts. Currently, the rest of the tuners bolt on parts (incl Saleen in the S281 and S281SC).

I didn't say Saleen was the only mustang tuner.[8D]

Well, if you REALLY want to get technical - you don't have to buy an S-281 E to have the engine removed. Just belly up the $15-17K extra for one of their few special paints (Rainbow, Lizstick Red, Beryllium, etc..) and the engine will come out for paint ;)

yea, and those two colors add $15,000 (I think)? There was a Lizstick red 'vert at Fun Ford. Beautiful car! If I remember, the color option was $15,000.[&:]

I wanted the berrilium so bad but it was too much. It was either a S281-SC and upgraded paint or a s281-e. I think I made the right choice. Especially after seeing a s281-e in berrilium. I love the color on the s7 and the older extreme, but for some reason I didn't like it on the newer extremes. I do like the trilogy silver now that I have seen it.

You made the right choice. I'd put the cash into the E over paint color any day.

Plus I figured if I ever run into the extra cash I could always send it back.

bugman - visit the sticky thread at the top "The Unofficial, Official How To Tell......" Post. There you will learn how to use NADA for the Saleens ;) First off you need to verify that it is a REAL Saleen. Looks like you have the bumper number, do you have the last 3 digits of the VIN?

Hi David...The turbonator comment shows that you and most everyone else on this thread like their Saleens'.Thats fine ,however since we are all grown ups here ,please don't expect too many Roush folks to come on board and discuss this ...
Obviously you are bias since the motor of a Saleen gets yanked out for internal mods.
You don't have to be rude about it...(I hope you meant that as a joke). That is why you didn't get me to reply to this thread(or too many other Stage 3 Roush owners), earlier.

To enlighten you about my opinion on Roushs' and Saleens',the Saleen does have a much stronger motor. On the other hand I still really like my Stage 3 Roush..

Notice that when you read this, that I was not rude to you.

Someone has dumped us into the same area on the forum. Not my fault.I am just asking you to not be so iconically challenged. These are all Mustangs here.I hope the extent of all of the discussions from now on aren't..."my car is better than your car..." Be a good sport.
