Not sure if this is where to post it... but from what I heard on this board, "ricer"/"rice" is someone who spends money with mods that only affect looks but not performance. would you consider someone a ricer if they had the spoiler/neons and all that junk BUT still invested in performance mods and had a decent car? Where do you draw the line? What are your thoughts on a mustang with lambo doors? I am new here and trying to get a feel on what is considered rice and what isnt..
2003 Mustang (YN Silver) Too many mods to list latest and greatest mod: Just picked up a 03' Cobra motor!! Wanted: Tranny and Wiring from 03/04 Cobra..
JMO, yes lambo doors on a Mustang = Rice. Lambo doors are for Lambo's only. IMO rice occurs when you modify your car just to draw shock value attention to youself. If you see a mod on a car and think "Man that is Fugly" or hear an engine or exhaust that sounds like a kazoo, that too is rice. I think the term started with the cheap imports from Japan but the disease has spread and is now infecting our great american muscle cars.

erm i know many civics and preludes that are pretty clean... no mods at all... just boner stock cars. and rice is not what you defined in ur post... mods that only affect looks? what if I upgraded my stock wing to a saleen 281 wing... will that make me a ricer? No. If I add a saleen bodykit to my stang or add a cobra r hood/front to my stang, will that make me rice? NO! But when you add the wrongful parts that make your car look absolutely outrageous then yes that is called rice. Lambo doors belong to Lambos. Not on stangs. My 2 cents.

A ricer is a car that is not designed to go fast but some one does go fast upgrades and pointless modifications to the car. Big Stand-offish body kits and stickers of performance parts manufacturerer's that they don't even have. Yeah neons are all rice too.
Rice is pretty much doing something to your car that makes it look ridiculous, for some reason people use all these APC parts from kragen or fake emblems trying to dress up their cars thats rice.... taking a car and making it look clean but yet still keeping it looking like wat its supposed to is not rice, in other words putting something on your car that doesnt belong on there is rice! for example just the other day I saw an orange stang with an aftermarket fiberglass body kit. stock wheels (v6) an a wing that looked like he stole Shamu's tail.... THATS RICE1!!
Heres a pic of my car, its a mustang (obviously) and parts that I used to dress it up were parts off of mustangs.... THATS NOT RICE!

Rice usually relates to those who take imports and add tacky retarded stickers, fart cannons, and think they're all fast 'cause they have NOS. The Fast and The Furious boosted this retarded morale. Mods of similar nature to other cars like domestics (Mustangs included) can be considered rice as well. Typical rice burners are mainly Honda Civics and a nice majority of Honda and Acura vehicles, and other import brands. Many even more ridiculous rides include Ford Escorts, Geo Metros, and even Saturn Ions... all cars that were never really meant to be sporty or modified.
EDIT: Yes, the car in my sig IS my car, and no, it is NOT rice. The aftermarket wheels were there already when I bought it, and everything else done to it is stereo related. It's my gas saver daily driver, that's it, lol, but I try to keep it looking nice, and the Fast and the Furious quote reference is a backwards joke. :D And BTW, I do have a 2007 Mustang on order ;)

I think just about anything that is "added" to the exterior of a car without an equal or greater performance benefit is rice, but that's just me. I actually remove styling features to decrease weight and add to the sleeper look.
A few examples:
On my '88 LX vert, I removed all the badging and the luggage rack and left the decklid bare. I still have the original 10 holes with 205s on front and 275 DRs on back. Aftermarket wheels are ok with me as long as they are lighter, but the stock wheel sleeper look is more important to me.
I'm also considering ditching the rear spoiler on my '06 GT. If it doesn't do anything, I don't really want it.
The rice phenomena is born from the necessity to distiguish a "high performance economy car" from just an "economy car." LOL.
If you drive a Vette, Mustang, Porsche, Viper, Camaro, etc. there is not that need, because you are driving a performance car and nobody needs to be reminded of that.

As an old fart, I enjoy driving my "classic". I particularly enjoy blowing off the "fast and furious" cars when I have the opportunity to meet one at a traffic light and we are both 1st in our respective lanes. Usually their cars sound fairly strange - sort of like a cross between a chainsaw and a straight exhaust, but it's generally hard to hear the exhaust because of the massive bass coming from the 2000 watt subwoofer. Anyway, I love to demonstrate what a humble, well built 289 can do without nitrous, turbo, or anything more than a 500 CFM Performer carb.
I bet the girl sitting in the passenger seat must give the driver a hard time after being blown away by "some old guy in an ancient Mustang". Makes me feel 21 again...
It pretty much means totally cosmetic enhancements and no performance upgrades, on an "every-day" car. The classic example is of course the Honda Civic with orange and puse green paint, parts stickers everywhere, a 3' spoiler, neons, etc.
If a car is meant for performance (a mustang qualifies) than adding some cosmetic parts is ok as long as you dont go way overboard.
I think just about anything that is "added" to the exterior of a car without an equal or greater performance benefit is rice, but that's just me.
Thats your choice and opinion, at least you went to the right side of the force! IMO, our 'Stangs unfunctional hood and side scoops, and barely (If at all) functional spoilers are NOT rice, but still fall into this definition. But a true muscle car can become rice if parts are added that originated from import ricers, IE clear tail lights, euro *anything else, fart cans, neon lights, and LAMBO DOORS!!
