I am goin to be taking my gt to the track this Friday and I was wondering what times to expect? My track is located 1600 feet above sea level. The only mods I have are axle back exhaust and a shaker scoop, so its mostly stock cept the 255's out back. I hear that anything under 14seconds you need a helmet, will I even come close to this, cause I dont have a hemlet. How picky are the track officials about this, and what will happen if I do run like a 13.9 or something? Also, my car is a 5spd, first time racing a manual at the track. Whats the best way to launch this car? I tried launching it at around 2300rpm a couple days ago and the car just slide sideways. What is the best rpm to shift at when racing? I know the traction control should be turned off for best results. Thanks!

When I was N/A I would launch at 3000k with 3.73 gears and had no problem with traction. NOw I had allot bigger tires than you have, but I think you will run under 14.00 so you may want to get a helmet if thats required. Seems to me you are having a hard time launching so you may be high 13's low 14;s your first time out

I don't have a helmet and I don't even know of anyone that does either. Being this is the first time going I think I am goin to have some traction issues so if that happens I will be extremly pumped and won't even care if they give me crap because I dont have one. I think the worst they do there is they tell you not to race anymore that day, and if I pull off a time under 14 seconds I won't even care, lol. Any other opinions on launching and shifting points?

How picky they are about the helmet is dependent on the track. It varies. At that altitude and with only axlebacks, I doubt you will break into the 13's. As far as launch, lower the air pressure to like 25 to start with and try launching at 1500 and then hammering it as soon as you get traction. If it bogs, launch at a little higher rpm until you find the best rpm for the track conditions. Try to shift at or just prior to 6k. The torque nanny will kick in a couple of hundred rpm's before the rev limiter does and it retards timing, so stay off the torque nanny. Factory rev limiter is right at 6250. Most of all, have fun! I am headed for the local 1/8 mile track in an hour or so to try out my new L/T's and UDP's.
Well, if I just barely break 14's (like 13.95) I doubt they will get too mad at me. If it happens it happens I guess. I'm just hoping that I run close to 14flat. If I run like a 14.5 or slower then I will trade it back in, lol.
