The Deloreans used stainless steel, but not chrome to achieve a lasting body. Chrome still rusts.

Did you know they actually made a handful fo Deloreans in red? Yup, they did. Or he did, whatever, sniff sniff! But, um, the aircraft stripper is available at Wallyworld if you can believe it. Yes it works, but like the first post. A layer at a time.

yeah i knew that. but, chrome can be de-rusted with WD-40 and a rag. plus i'm not going for long lasting. i want to have every single girl wet herself just seeing me pass by (the good kind of wet dorks!)

This is gunna be hard to believe but... My dad collects muscle cars (mostly mustangs ) from the 60s nothin later than 70. He has a 1965 shelby cobra with an aluminum block 427 2 4bbl and the whole body of the car is aluminum. Before he got the car he had the body shipped out to the (i think this is the right prison) nevada state prison where lots of inmates polished the living crap out of the car for hundreds of hours. It has the same affect as chrome and looks wicked sick, light as hell and it blinds the living crap out of people on the road! Ill get some pics up later, you should do it with your stang! the one, the only, polished aluminum bodied mustang evarrrr! (we call the cobra the silver bullet!)

Hey I was wondering--couldyou just poor this into some type of large pan and dip your panels into it? Or would that cause rust?

stripper... I'm actually wearing the remaining part of my t-shirt that that wild and crazy stripper got ahold of one firey night two years ago... It didn't show up until it went through the wash, and half of the shirt was missing. I used klean-strip. Looks like you have water on there... o.O Didn't water mine down... Just pasted it on, pasted it on, waited until it flaked, waited until it flaked, scraped it off, scraped it off. It was quick and easy. It had what appeared to be between 1/8" to 1/4" of paint/prime on it over the years. The scene on the floor reminds me that of the haircutters. I sanded it down to the metal from there. It's been slow because it's my daily, and my days over the course of the past 2 years have been... fluxuant. At least the car is a tank and has never failed me through all the neglect upon it. In early jan. this year, I sanded the powder primer I had on it for over half a year on it because the first rust spots were beginning to show through.... and sprayed an insanely thin layer of flat colorplace spray on it...

And oh, I can't clearly remember but there's something I remember about not using any adhesives (paint/filler/etc) on the car for a couple months after treating with stripper. perhaps that's if you leave plastic filler and paint on it, but perhaps it lingers in the metal as well? I'm not so clear in memory on that, but I'd take the safety precautions and at least read on it before you invest time and money applying any restoration of the bodywork/paint. There's a 68 here that I see what I was told is "scarring" from painting it shortly after stripping. Has the bubbly effect.

not with this stuff from what i saw! i'd spray it on and within a few seconds it would be evaporating and eating at the paint, i don't know how long you'd get it to sit in a container. i really don't think it would cause rust as it evaporated rather well.

Saldana, yeah, when i was done i sprayed the car down with water. the can reccommended it after finishing peeling. it also suggested a cleaner or turpentine. it's gonna be a while before i get around to painting it. i'm taking it most of the way down with the stripper and than sanding it to the metal. from there i was planning on giving it a few days to prep, plus it's gonna be a while before i get around to actually painting it.

a friend of mine has a place and would do anything for me. i'm thinking i might build her a garage so that i can work in it! LOL! store my car there and pay her a bit in rent and work the hell outt it there. i can really get to do the things i need to and get my car prepped faster with a garage.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't promote oxidation other than the fact it may expose metal, I'm assuming actually "vapourizes" it to an extent, like alcohol... I suppose a decent example is comparing it to how bleach is to us. It "seeps" beneath the paint, and "lifts" it from underneath (Probably by forcing oxygen into and beneath the paint). That was a fun weekend. I used a brush, and occasionally it splattered on me. Suprisingly smolderingly sexy unique burning sensation best described it. It's a very effective way to get an aerodynamic finish for that desired performance in flight... from a typical dogfight to package transportation. It'll save on fuel.

Anthony, I think chroming your car is a bad idea. One, cost, ouch. Two, it would literally be a oven in the sun and you could only take it out in cloudy days(rain?). 3, youd kill someone. The sun would hit that, and everyone in the opposite lane would be blinded and wreck. 4, dont be stupid[slap]

A better idea would be to powdercoat your car. And, if ur guy has the right material, they can powder coat a chrome color(looks exactly like it) and doesnt pit or anything for atleast 40 years....
