O.K. Convertible owners, check out the custom roll bar...
A number of you have asked if I'd post how I did it pics for my custom roll bar. As I mentioned, I was not too excited by Autopower's roll bar (the only one available for our vert) becauses it bolts to the floor behind the seats, and you lose a lot of the useability (if there is any, LOL). I also, already had the CDC lightbar installed. So I set out to create a roll bar that used the "B" pillar CDC mount, and bolted in so it could be removed. Here's what I came up with:
Step 1) design roll bar with two solid steel "stingers" to slide down in fortified CDC "B" pillar brackets. Trailing arms mount to only flat spoy under rear seat.http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...00_0302_00.jpghttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...00_0304_00.jpg
Step 2) fortify CDC "B" pillar bracket by welding it in, and welding reinforcing strap around ithttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...00_0298_00.jpg
Step 3) Fab mounting plates with grade 8 bolts welded through it to be spot welded to unibody. You have to drill holes large enough for welded bolt heads to recess into. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...00_0307_00.jpg
Step 4) epoxy seal around welded in mounting plate so water can't come through new holes.http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...00_0311_01.jpg
Step 5) cut mounting brackets/feet off upper rear seat (takes guts) because you lost their mounting spot when you welded bar plates in. Don't worry, now pop rivit 1" strap down center of seat and use this to bolt seat in the center. The upper seat cushion is behind the bars anyways.
Finished Product: Passed tech inspection, and got me on the track.http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/100_0351.jpghttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/100_0347.jpghttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/100_0326.jpg
This set up allows me to unbolt it if I want to put the CDC light bar back on. I probably won't because it looks good and gets alot of talk. Well, there you have it. It's off to the track.

Hi Beaustang, yes, the top works fine with it in. I used the CDC light bar as a template for figuiring finished height. I then gave my self an extra inch so when I have my race padding on the bar the top still goes up.

Oh yea, there is still room for the top to go up with the race required padding as well, I just like the clean lines of it unpadded when not at the track.

Not sure if I can get used to it...I do like the concept, but it already seems like the backseat is crowded and now with the bar...just too much clutter for me....but it was well made and job well done!
Just my $.02
