Be careful, the 302CID engine showed up in Fords in '68.. Be aware that some Fox Mustangs built from'80 -mid '83 used a 255CID (4.2) V-8 that will look the same on the outside..... They are DOGS........ 5.0 went away after '95...... But was used in same SUV type things as late as '99........

the 302 was optional in every mustang since 68 except in 74, which did not have a v8. 80 and 81 had the 255ci engines
cmon people, in this age of google, there is no reason to be posting false information

I used the book by Al Kirschenbaum for a referance. Maybe you should get one. It's expensive but really good. Get it from Amazon, maybe cheaperthan Borders. I think it even has a Ford part number.. BTW, LOC is ISBN-0-8376-0210-6 BTW, Ford racing part number is M1832-Z4 I do think they know what they are talking about.........

right on. but if it says that the 82 and 83 v8 mustangs came with anything less than a 302, then your book is just plain wrong.
"Another interesting and even lesser known fact is that, in Canada, the '82 GT was apparently available with any engine offered in the Mustang line-up (the 4 cylinder 2.3L was standard, with the following engines offered as optional equipment: 2.3L turbo 4 cylinder offered ONLY in Canada in 1982 Mustangs, 3.3L 6 cylinder, 4.2L V8 or 5.0L HO V8)."
I still have the idea that some written by a well known auto motive writer and carrying a Ford part number maybe a fairly accurate source over what some peeps post on-line.....

ORIGINAL: tinman But was used in same SUV type things as late as '99........
They did use them as late as 2001, I have a 2001 Explorer with the 302 in it. Im not sure but i thik that 2001 was the last model year with 302's in them for the explorer.
The mod motor was going to be the replacement for the conventional SBF. Remember, it first showed up in 1962 as 221CID I think one of the real reasons was due to emissions standards in passenger cars and they could make something like the mod (4.6) run cleaner than a 5.0. Remember also that trucks and SUV's have differant standards and so it could go for a few more years there....... BTW, all the american car builders have done redesign on all the V-8's in the past 10-15 years, The SBC don't even resemble a Chevy anymore and Mopar has done the deal twice. First with the 'Magnam' type engine and now with the 'Hemi' thats not a true hemi at all...
