As for the meanest Trans Am ever... I'd have to say the 2nd gen 455. Talk about a big motor in a pony car... Biggest motor ever to go into a stock production F-Body. I was with TJ when he smoked that Spec-V, man that thing was ricey... and slow! vfast, very impressive mods, I like

nah. them old big blocks were victim to new goverment regulations on emissions. they had to make em big, only way to get any power. my step brother had a 79 trans am with an olds 403, similar year, that put out a whopping 180 hp stock.

2nd gens werent all Dogs. 70 had 455 HO and 400 Ram Air IV, 71-72 had round port 455 HO, 73-74 had 455 Super Duty engines. The SD's were good for about mid to high 13s completely stock. The 403 Olds is a small block, and yeah its kinda wimpy. You can make them run okay, but its easier and more reliable with a bigger engine. They were smog engines and had a short stroke and big bore. The bore was almost as big as a 460 Ford, and it had the same stroke as a 350 olds. The Super Duty's were the meanest Firebirds built. The ZL1 was the best camaro. Neither one is affordable now, but you can build whatever you want out of anything...lol
