Hello all! I just joined and I'm thinking about purchasing a 1989 Mustang 5.0 LX. The car has 127K miles with only one owner. He's an older guy and it looks like he took pretty good care of the vehicle. I drove it today and it ran strong. The body has some a couple small door dings and scratches but over all the paint and body are in good shape. The clutch has never been changed and I could tell the brakes and tires need replacing. Other than the power locks, everything else works including the cruise control. It's basically a stock 5.0 with an Alpine CD player. My experience with Mustangs is very limited and I have no real clue what a "good deal" might be. The owner is currently asking $3200/OBO. I was wondering what more experienced mustang enthusiasts might have to say. Before I buy, I plan on having my mechanic give it a once over to look at the brakes, clutch, master and slave cylinders, etc. Just to make sure I'm not dumping a bunch of money into the vehicle initially, or at least if I am dumping that money then I've reduced his asking price significantly. Any opinions on the situation? I look forward to many fun modifications and advice from this group! Take care, Benjie

Welcome to the forum. Id try to get that car for 2500. Let your mechanic go over it first but a buddy of mine bought an 89 with 150000 on it and now it runs 12's and still has the high mile bottom end in it. At 127000 its just broken in!!!!! Good luck.

Thanks! Does anyone know of any weakness/failure points I should look for on the '89 LX 5.0s?
