My wife and I are looking at buying one of the two....maybe. I'm going to look at a black Saleen this afternoon. Sticker is $47k. What are these cars ACTUALLY selling for? It has 375hp and 415tq. What about the Cobras? I haven't found one yet but what are they going for?

Your best bet would be the 03 cobra. they r going for around 35 and up. the saleen s281 supercharged is sweet but 375 vs the cobra's 390 ain't nothing especially since the cobra is cheaper!!!

Now if I HAD my choice, I'd get smart and buy a Subaru STI....Now don't get upset, you know that a stock WRX puts a mean hurt on a stock 4.6 L....(BTW, that cracks me up that a car with an engine less than half the displacement can do that).....At least just go drive a WRX before you buy....

IF IT WERE ME, DEFINITELY GET THE 03 COBRA. 5.0 MUSTANG DID A TEST ON AN 03 COBRA WITH LONG TUBES, FLOWMASTER TWO-CHAMBERS AND 3 INCH PIPING AND IT GAINED 55 HORSES! THAT'S ALOT OF HIDDEN POWER IN THAT BEAST, PLUS THE INTERIOR IS NICER AND DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE RAZZLE-DAZZLE BODY CLADDING LIKE THE SALEEN.

i would go for the cobra, big t is right, there is a lot of hidden power in that machine. as for the wrx driver, don't worry, i used to suffer from the same disease as you. i used to have an RX-7 twin turbo. it would totally have smoked u, but that's not the prob. i woke up when i was sitting at the light next to a beautiful rummbling 90' 5.0. i reved it nice and loud( so i thought), and he responed with authority, followed by a massive ass raping. one of these days you will find your way

I bought the Cobra (2 weeks ago). I drove the S281 (also in black - my Cobra is silver) and it was nice. If they were the same price I would've gone with the Saleen (even though it was only 5 speed). My car is faster and I saved over $10K (looks like upgrades to me). Hope this helps.

I bought an 03 cobra 2 weeks ago. I fell in love with the color (mineral grey)

I paid 33,500

There are dealers out there that will give you a fair price. My friends cobra dynos at 419hp out of the box. there are some horsepower discrepancies with the factory figures. 100 extra ponies costs about $1500 bucks.

Although the saleen posts lower figures, I get the feeling that it is as strong and possibly handles better due to the weight of the vehicles. Don't get me wrong, the cobra handles very well since it is the only factory mustang with Independent rear suspension. On the track, the supercharged saleen may win by a slight margin but value for the dollar plus cheap upgrades makes the cobra a better buy in my opinion. The only complaint I have is that the traction controll is always on instead of always off like it should be. The stupid seat belt thing pissed me off for a few days until I figured out how to turn it off.

Any cobra is absolute supremecy to your Jetta.

I just forget to turn off the traction control every time I get in. I can disable it with a chip but that means it is permanately disabled. If you have any ideas let me know. I don't want to f##k up the factory wiring.

03/04 COBRA=TERMINATOR!!!!!!!!!!!

Saleen is a nice car if you want to spend the money for some individuality something more rare and just slightly exotic, know that youd be paying for a name and a body kit. As far as performance on the street the terminator with mods will own the saleen stock. On a road course the Saleen may be faster (or may not) but how often do you go to a closed road course?


oh and if youve got the money for a Saleen hang on to it until the GT500 is out next year and every Saleen owner can bow down and worship... cuz you know DAMN!

It might win but it needs a road noise knob so you can turn it down to hear yourself think.....My brother had a wrx and now has an STI and he took me for a ride in it and I was searching all around the dash and he was like what are you looking for and I'm like the road noise knob so I can turn it down cause I cant hear what your saying over all the road noise.We then added 100 pounds of dyno mat to make it even livable but its still real bad

I would go for the Cobra in a minute..........
Saleens have to much 'razzle-dazzle' on them. They are overdone and overpriced.
IMHO, I think that Ford underated the HP some as nearly every one of these cars I've personnally heard seem to be making about 420HP......

Personally, I think the Roush Mustangs look the best - that's what I'd go with. But the Cobra's do come with the most power. Two of my friends have one - one's a mystic and the other has a kenne bell s/c on it.

FYI!!!!!! This thread was started in January of 2003 I really doubt the author cares what our opionons are anymore especially since he hasn't logged on since 05/20/03.
