I went out today bought an a Mr. Clean Autodry and NXT wax. What do you guys think of this combo on a new car? It was just delivered the other day, so it's time for its first wash!

My preference is nothing but.....TURTLE WAX ICE. No residue, it goes over black, vinyl, rubber, headlights you name it. BRILLIANT SHINE, deep, wet, reflective. My car is a week older than yours (5/24)
I even did my interior (black vinyl) it loooooooooooks awesome.
Take the NXT back, and get TWI

Turtle wax ice has absolutely terrable reviews everywhere I have read. You may want to reconsider.

But I am sure it will make a new car look good, anything does.

I would be interested in any wax that does not get into vinyl or plastic trim...and stays there FOREVER. If this stuff doesn't show up on badges and what not, I'd give it a shot. I hate waxing a car just because no matter how good of job you do, you'll be finding left over white spots for months (If not years)

I still haven't heard anything about ICE's protection qualities and longevity.

If you are going to stick with OTC stuff, then I'd go with Mothers Reflections Series.

I have been using the NXT wax for a year now and it is the best wax I have ever used. The stuff does not dry white, does not turn your plastic/vinyl parts white and wipes off easy. It also has very good protection. I have never seen any wax from Turtle wax that was worth a crap...that is just my opinion, plus I have tried most of the turtle wax products and didn't like any that I have ever bought.

I just had my car painted and the person I talked to said that the best thing for your car is either Mothers or Mequires(spelling)if your going to wax it. But he also told me that in the long run waxing a car also breaks down the clearcoat and the best thing to do is either use a polish or don't wax it at all. I'm not saying that he's 100% right but now a days you don't know what to believe because theres so many different opinions on different products it makes your head spin!! Just my $.02 worth

I think I would be finding a new painter if anybody ever told me that line of BS!!! That is such crap. My dad is a painter and has been for 20 years. We wax ours cars all the time and never had clear coat breakdown. Polish is just that. It does NOTHING to protect your paint from the elements or UV rays of the sun like a good quality wax does. I have a 1995 Jeep it has a 142,000 miles on it and the paint still looks brand new except for the normal rock chips that you get from daily driving.

Hey BlueDemon,

You sure your painter didnt have said using 'polish' can affect the clearcoat. As it contains abrasives over time, if all you use is a polish this will wear away the clearcoat. But if your painter did say wax then you need to teach how to look after his freshly painted cars.LOL

I am awaiting my new '06 Saleen to arrive in the Uk and the first job I will be doing is washing and claybarring the bodywork to remove contaminents from the shipping process. Once this is done, I'm gonna hit it up with Mother's Reflections and then Top Coat.
Once I have a few coats of Reflections on then I am sure the Vista Blue paint will look great

i run a detailing business here in the UK and find Mother's is the better product out there personally.

I have put about 2 coats of Turtle Wax "ICE" on my car...Its ok...But I dont think it last very long at all...I still love my Zaino...But Mequiars is a great wax as well...I have never used many mothers products...A few of the wheel polishes and I used to clean wax that came with the clay bar I used ages ago...

NXT left a film on my car it still looked good but that film was there, I've tried almost everything out there on my black paint and right now I use Mequires paint cleaner and Tutrle Wax these tow togeather seem to work well on my black paint. I might try the Mequires X or Black X wax. My biggest issue right now is fine scratches but I will let the detailer take care of those.

I AM going to put wax on my car, but I was also told to wait at least 3 to 4 weeks for the paint to cure before I apply it. Does that sound right to you. If you run a detailing service I'm sure you know what your talking about, besides everyone on this forum has always steered me in the right direction before. Thanxs for steering me in the right direction guys!!

Yep it is good to wait a good month after a fresh paint job before any wax is applied. If you wax it before the paint has fully cured it won't ever have a chance to harden like it is supposed to and you will have problems with it later on most likely. Let it fully cure then you are good to go. I wasn't trying to bash you on your painters comments. I just can't believe a guy that paints cars would say something like he did.

Hey man I know you weren't trying to bash ME, I understand why you would upset when you hear sh*t like that. I mean like I said you don't know who or what to believe any more. By the way I did go out and buy Mothers California Gold Carnauba Cleaner wax and I bought the Mothers chrome polish for my rims. Does that sound like what I would want to put on a new paint job? Thanxs guys for the help. Sorry GMSupercar I didn't mean to hijack your post.

BlueDemon,

Please check if you have Mother's Cleaner Wax or Mother's Pure Carnauba Wax (Stage 3).

The cleaner wax also contains a polish which has a mild cutting agent in it. this kind of 'two stage' wax is used if you have oxidized paintwork that is in need of a 'cut back'. This is not best for your fresh paint.
If you got Pure Carnauba liquid Wax (stage 3) then great stuff.

Apply a good coating after the time specified for your new paintwork. Make sure you apply with a clean microfibre applicator or terry towel applicator then remove each section at a time with another clean microfibre buffing cloth.

Hope this helps buddy.

Kev
