Remember Sunoco 260 and Amaco white premium? You could run 13:1 with that stuff and it was only 27.9 cents. Got to love the sound of a high compression engine. Step on the gas and it revs up fast and immediately back to idle with no wind down.

Gosh - I remember when a NEW mustang was about $2300. I earned $0.55/hr. at my first job. Dad drove us from DC to San Fran in 1957, it was a two week trip with no sight seeing. Worked at a gas station while a senior in high school, it was very common for customers to by $1.00 of gas and expect to get their windshield (front and back) cleaned, oil checked, and air up the tires. Then there was the three mile walk to school, always in the snow and up hill both ways.

Don't worry 67t5ponycoupe wait until these guys need to start up a '56 Buick or put gas in a '56 chevy belair. And to think some people thing Honda invented the remote "start" button. lol It's amazing some of the ideas our fore fathers had when you look real close at some older cars! Now, i dont think AGE has too much to do with some of this stuff. Im 17, and can tell you all the stuff people mentioned, plus. On the 56 Buick, are you talking about the starter switch that is activated with the gas pushed all the way down? always causing it to "start with a roar'? being a chevy guy, i know how to put gas in a belair. ooh and a three on the tree?????????? OH YEA, Thats just a term for a 3 speed column shift tranny. BLAH, Im 17, and knew all that., What do you know? Until the alzhiemers kicks in anyway

first, my mom was 5 1/2 when my 66 was born, so i wasn't even a tickle in my father's sac. i did know about the floor switch, but not until i was about 18 and really started getting into cars. i had my license for a year before i got my first car, an 86 4-banger lx stang. just found out what "3 on the tree" ment about 3 days ago . lowest i remember seeing gas was about 78 cents a gallon, by time i started riving it was 1.25 and the lowest i ever paid for a gallon was .99. my step dad has told me stories of him and his friends cruising (which we youngins will never be able to do like they did, and with that, i was born in the wrong era!!!!) and at the end of the night having only 25 cents between 4 of them and still getting a gallon of gas AND change back!!. he swears by 2 door cars and can't understand how youngins (mainly the "ricer" type) think a four door car is sporty or fast. and i wish i had half the cars my parents had! 2 nova's, 2 gto's, a malibu, a monte's, a 442 (and whichever one is the equivelent to the 442, but slightly less powerful). the monte was an 83 i think, my mom brought it to have a new carb thrown on and to put flames on the front end (i was 2 1/2 at this time) and the car was stolen from the shop never to be seen again.

I remember gas being 69 cents a gallon (no comments here!) and that was during the gas crunch in the early 70's. I wasn't driving but lived a few blocks from a gas station and we'd all watch 20-40 cars stand in line with a limit of $3 per car. I knew an older girl (heh, must have been all of 19) who was pretty damned, uh, stacked and she'd go to the station and then "distract" the clerk while the nozzle poured gas into her car. She never had to worry about the limit because by the time the guy unglued his eyes from her assets to the nozzle, she had waaaaaaaaaaay more than $3 in gas. (Back then things weren't run by computer so you couldn't program it to give X dollars in gas). Siphoning was a huge thing back then, too. After that they sold the anti-siphoning gizmos but I guess now they're standard in cars, as you rarely if ever hear about it happening. I don't remember the price of gas back in 1978 but I had my first car, a 1973 bright orange Ford Maverick, and I can remember gassing up with $1.26 or $1.87 or whatever change I could dig up when money was scarce.

I saw Elvis Presley on the Ed Sullivan show when Elvis first became popular. He sang "Hound Dog" and I believe "Heartbreak Hotel." I was in college when the Beatles and Rolling Stones first hit the scene from England. That was called the British explosion. Then came the Monkees, etc. Then of course, came the Disco scene. I was sure glad when that was finally was over. Then, some kids from inner cities did some looping of old records, and the Rap scene gained instant success. Well, Hip-Hop and R&B seems to be the choice of many today as far as pop music goes. Me, I just listen to Jazz and C&W.

I grew up listening to big bands such as Glen Miller and Harry James, then continued listening to folks such as Louis (Satchmo) Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and now listen to folks such as Jason Faddis and Arturo Sandoval. Good stuff.... Now, that's how you work a dimmer switch on a classic Mustang.
