Maaco is a budget paint job. They are better than say Earl Shieb, but they are not like taking it to a custom painter or general paint and body shop that does restoration. Don't know what car you have or how old, how rare, how valuable. If I had a 66 Fastback, I would not go to Maaco. If I had a 94 4.6, sure. duh..I was being generic. How stupid...and my wife even has a 94 5.0 GT...OOPS! ...but, you got the idea!

if you had a 94 4.6?? i think he means 5.0 anyway maaco is not the best of paint jobs, just make sure you check and see what their warenty plans are and if you think that you would like to go ahead and get it painted do it. Its all up to you if your real picky about your car like me you should prolly take it some where else. Most top end places will charge you at least 4,000 to paint your whole car. Thats just my .02

My car is an 88 5.0 and I'm picky about how my car looks but not so much that I'll point out every nook and kranny that was missed. I just want people to look at it and say "Now that's a nice looking car!" I will definetly be asking about a warranty. It's just that now my car looks good from the side but when you get up to it and see the top parts of the car where the sun beats down on it,it looks very very dull and ugly

i'd spend the extra to have it done right the first time, and not have to get it done again months later,,,

My Father in law had his 56 buick done in a passion pink type color. He says he's never had a paint job so good for the money. I've seen it up close and couldn't see a single thing wrong with it. It looks really great to me. He says he's paid more money for less results other places. That's where he plans on taking all his other restore projects. I suppose it's what you want though. It's where I plan on taking my 65 for now but that's a ways away and may change depending on what I find. Not all of us can afford 4k for a paint job... I could get a hot tub for that price yikes.

You only get what you pay for, or can afford. I'm sure MACCO will do a suitable job, as they've been around for years. There's a reason why professional body shops chrage more, and that's quality, and pride in their work. Good Luck JMO

I appreciate the comments--Good and bad. Hey Jakaru, does $1407 sound like alot of money for what i'm getting or not? Like I said I'm getting the top paint job on sale from $1000 to $750 which is the Signature service and they are prepping the front and rear bumper and fixing all my dents for another $579. When I get a chance I'm going to get some before and after pictures to post and maybe get some other peoples opinion. Thanxs again guys--keep the comments coming!!

Sounds like you've decided on Maaco. Again, they are budget which does not mean they are no good. Like someone said, they would not be here as long as they have been if they were crappy. I had a no-nothing car I took in and I just talked to the guy, mano e mano. Chuck and grin, be his friend and explain you know he will do a good job. Compliment him on his work and tell him how much it means and to you it is a lot of money. He will appreciate your human side and most likely do you a little better job due to you attitude. Don't thank me, thank Dale Carnegie! Good luck and have fun! I'm sure it will be fine. And, a few more bucks for the body work is probably fair. They are a spray and go shop so you already have a bit more attention.

Well I suppose that depends on the amount of body work they are doing but it sounds about right. My father and law spent about 1k I think. He did all the body work himself though and all they did was paint it really. Don't get too discouraged about them. Macco is probably what's going to be in my price range when I get there. I wont have a show quality car... but that's not what I'm going for. I want a very nice daily driver. If you have doubts or anything ask if you could come see one of the cars they've completed with that paint job option no reason for them to say no if they believe in their work. Check it out and just ask yourself if you'd pay to have that paint job. I'd pay to have my father in laws paing job right now that's for sure.

I have a 1972 F250 that I bought off my father-in-law and he had it painted a nice metal flake, clear coat looking, root beer brown at Maaco. They did a pretty nice job for the price, but I didn't know that you weren't supposed to take it through a car wash. One day I went through a coin-op car wash and then drove home. I parked it in the driveway and went into the garage; I came back out of the garage and looked at my truck and noticed something funny. On closer inspection I found that the high pressure spray had taken some of the paint off, right under the trim. Why? Because they do minimum prep and only tape off the trim instead of removing it. I got out the warranty info and right in the warranty it says to hand wash only! Bummer! I ended up getting some 1" trimtape and taping the line just below the trim down both sides of my truck. It's not noticable and it saved the whole paint job. The paint job is a good 10 - 12 years old now and is decent except where it is peeling here and there. If you get a Maaco job be sure and know what the warranty says. Another thing to find out is if they paint the bumpers and all the trim too...good luck! A good paint job is well worth the extra money if you can afford it...I had a 1984 Bronco II that was custom painted with Dupont Centari that also had an epoxy gloss kit added to the paint...it was black with two stripes one was candy apple red over candy apple gold and the other was candy apple gold over candy apple red. It was still great looking after ten years. Never waxed it either! The guy that painted told me to keep it clean with soap and water and I hand polished it once a year with a product called Liquid Ebony. I went hunting one year and came home with brush scratches all down both sides and all I had to do was polish them out with the Liquid Ebony! Good luck! Thumbnail Image

Hey guys again thankyou for your opinions. I was thinking that when I get my car back of putting some reflective orange rally stripes on it and getting rid of the flaming horse head thats on the hood. I think that would really set my car off. I'd like to get some other guys opinions if you don't mind. Thanxs Thumbnail Image
