Default Why are axlebacks so expensive?

I see alot of these A/B's are 400 dollars or more (except for the slp, but theres no mufflers there, lol). For 2 mufflers and two tip and a bit of pipe? Seems like a lot? And Corsa's system is over 600, why are these so expensive?

well, the way i justify it to myself is that its 2 mufflers instead of 1 on some cars. 2x the muffler = 2x the cost, theres a little tiny bit of logic to it so maybe now u can sleep at night

I dunno about the SLPs, but the Borlas and the FRPP (made by Borla) are stainless. Have you priced a stainless muffler? Even a generic one is $100 or more, easily.

The price doesn't really bother me. I mean, on a car that's very nearly $30,000 why worry about a hundred or two on your exhaust?

It's called R&D and certification. You are paying for all the R&D beside most of the expensive axle backs are made of stainless steel and it is not cheap. Stainless steel is also a PITA to weld so they have to have special machines. Like most things in life the cost of the product itself is not even close to what we pay. It is all the stuff that it tooki to make that product that we pay for.

i have MACs, which I think are decent price/value. They are SS.

I thought >$500 for Bassani, Borla etc. axle backs was just too expensive.

OT, but the one part I want but can't bring myself to buy are the overpriced plastic mirror covers. Just crazy to spend that kind of money on molded ABS covers, IMO.

Heh. I wouldnt call 500 for dual axle backs bad... Look at some other markets. I just sold my 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000, slip ons for that go for 300 to 700, and all you get a a foot long midpipe and a muffler. High performance boats... you want a Mercury Racing exhaust manifold or a Corsa, they run somewhere around 2k a piece IIRC... I wouldnt say axlebacks for GTs are out of line in price.
