So you agree the Fox body was under styled. That was my point, and you and I can agree. And disagree on other points

Same goes for the bobtail Bronco, and the next generations, including the II.

not so sure about teh "bob tail bronco" got a pic?

but yeah, i see what i did there i put "i agree by disagreeing", but i ment to say, "i agree and disagree"

i agree that the foxes were understyled, but that helped with "blending in" and i disagree with (unless i interpreted it wrong) the comment about the other mustangs not looking like "mustangs". like i had said in regards to that was, if ALL mustangs looked the same, they really wouldn't be as diverse as they are and there wouldn't be a "classic section" on a technicallity.

The "bobtail" was a reference to the original '66 to '77 Broncos. This isn't mine, but it shows the style I fell in love with.

It cracks me up when Mustang "Enthusiasts" get so pissy about the IIs. Guess what kiddies... nothing had performance at that time in the '70s. Even the Trans-Ams and Vettes were performance choked.

What do you think would have happened to your precious Mustang line if the II was never produced? The same thing that almost happened in '94... it would have been killed, buried and forgotten. Or worse yet... forgotten until someone with no imagination decides to resurrect it as a minivan like the poor Fairlane -

Then:

Now:

You guys should give a little thanks to that car every time you see one on the street. If it wasn't for the II you'd probably be trying to hot rod a Explorer knock off with a pony on the grille.

I like the old purple one better. The gas crunch in the 70's really wreaked havok with performance cars. If you lived through those years as an adult, you will remember the gas lines. Hey, there were even gas rage shootings at the pumps. The norm back then for a regular Mustang was the 4 banger. If you owned a V8, you were in high cotton, but short on change to buy gas. The Foxes are in a world of their own, and IMO, served their purpose during those short on gas years. But, we have to come to reality. They were weak.....not only with engine performance, but suspension, etc. Now, the 80's brought on the 5.0 which turned out to be quite a performer, but not like the 60's muscle cars. Today, we enjoy the years of 2000 where performance has returned to what it used to be during the 60's, but with modern technology. However, the old gas crunch gremlin is facing us again, so these days of glory may be short lived.

Well, the II's may not be the prettiest car in the world but like I said before, It's something different. I like driving something different that everyone else. I know there are a lot of mustangs like mine around, but I have the only one in my town. My daily driver is a 1970 F100 and it is a one of a kind in my town. I think it would be cool too to drive a king cobra or even a clone of a king cobra. There's not a lot of people who seen them and most would probably even look and say, Hey, what kind of car is it? Everyone has the fox bodies and everyone has the "classics" but the II's are something different to set you apart. Just my little opinion.

I think the coolest part of owning a nice Mustang II would be the overall impression that it's a turd. As evidenced here most people think they are gutless and won't get out of their own way. Wouldn't it be sweet to shove a 351 Clevor into a nice little Cobra II ? Can't you just see the looks when a big horse motor sends the tires up in smoke ? Those little cars look bad ass guys and like it or not they're part of the breed. Don't bash them ... welcome them. Don't hate them ..... embrace them.

A few of the bow tie faithful turned their backs on the Camaros and look what happened. Now the Chevy crowd is reduced to hoping GM stays out of bankruptcy long enough to build their beloved Camaro's namesake and praying that the car lives up to the hype. I'll take a 78 King Cobra over a 2009 , 2010 , 2011 ?????????????????? Camaro anyday.

JMHO, Dean

Thanks. I love driving down the street, and hearing young kids say "cool car". Most of the Mustang IIs were gone before the 90s due to accident or rust, so a lot of kids have never seen one. I purchased my second II in '02, first one was back in '78. I now have 2 fastbacks(hatchbacks), and only know of 2 other Mustang IIs within 25 to 30 miles from where I live. As I drive mine almost daily, everybody knows my car.

Here is a pic of my II just after I bought it. Yes it needs paint, but it's almost 31 years old.

For those who want to bash the II -- here are my 2 cents.

I own 2 of these, both are '78 Ghia's. Have you even looked at ebay lately? Yes, you can pick up a Mustang II cheaper than the other shelby's, etc., but the pricing on these cars have nearly doubled in a just a couple of years. It is not uncommon to pay over $10,000 for one on Ebay. One of the '78s I have owned since '79. And it has been my daily driver. The other '78 I purchased last July. Now I can tell you from my own experience that my first '78 - with a stock 302 V-8 in it and auto transmission - BEAT Corvettes in '79. So like another poster said, none of the cars during that time had the power that they do today. But realistically, look at how much hp you get in todays cars. I've got a Ford rebuilt 302 in my '78 that has 200 HP - and that along with the lighter body will still outrun some of the newer cars today - STOCK. Parts have become easier to find than they used to, and the value is going up on them.

I personally have rarely had anyone come up and snub me on my car. One fellow Mustanger did at a local car show last year - he said "I always thought those were the ugliest cars." I was appalled! I know a lot of people don't care for them, but really - if you can't say something nice - then keep you pie hole shut! Ironically, I placed higher than he did at the car show.

Bottom line -- it is your decision whether to buy a Mustang II or not. But if you like it and have the money to buy it - you will enjoy driving it. And if it weren't for these little Mustang II's there would not have been any Mustangs after that!

A Mustang II is a Mustang TOO!

The mustang 2 is without a doubt the ugliest and biggest POS Mustang ever made. I'd be ashamed to drive one of those around. They are worth more as PARTS cars then they deserve to be for a normal car.

but seriously tho, now picture it with a 347/aod/injection. youd have an ugly little pig on wheels that would beat the pants off most fox-bodies on the street. they dont seem like such a bad car to start with, and actually look ok if done in moderation.
this one with some modern wheels doesnt seem like it would be so bad. i could live with it
