I have a 68 coupe w/a 289 and a 6 bolt main Auto tranny. I'm having problems removing the lines. Not only are they hard to lossen at the tranny, but I've kinked them and now need to build new ones. Any suggestions on how to keep these connections at the tranny from binding? Does anyone make 5/16 custom braided steel lines? Has anyone modified these line to tranny connections? The rear/uppermost line is giving me the most problems. THANX!
They must have been over tightened or corroded. Spray with liquid wrench and use one of those new wrenches that does not round the corners. I think Sears has them.
I agree with the liquid wrench and let it sit for a day or two. Then when you put a wrench to it, come out 1/2 of a turn then back in, then a full turn and back in. Don't force them. You can use a bottle torch to help suck the liquid wrench into the threads, but be careful not to use too much heat. An open end wrench with wrist pressure should do it. Use some more liquid wrench and repeat that process over and over until she turns loose. I second the motion for lines from NPD.

A good set of line wrenches goes a long way. The ones Crafstman has are junk, they will round them off worse than a regular type wrench. Since you have already kinked them, just cut them and unscrew the fittings, then get new lines.
I find it helps a bit if I remove the trans mount and corssmember and let the trans sag downward a bit, it gives you more room to work in.
In the future tighten them just a tad first before you try to remove them. It will free the threads, then you can wiggle the fitting on the line untill it spins freely. The fitting will sieze to the line and it will turn as one piece, just moving it around like Soaring said does wonders. Sometimes you can only move it a little bit, just dont use so much force that the lines kink again. I know, easier said than done.
