Hey everyone, I unfortunetly can't say I am in the SVT crowd yet, but this summer it is my single goal to get an 01 SVT, and already there is a guy talking smack about how his 97 LT1 walks all over cobras with just a aftermarket throttle boddy and air filter. Just wanted to ask all you guys if there is even any remote spec of truth in this guy, or would a 01 cobra with a cold air kit make him eat his words? Thanks for the info guys!

I'd love to get an 03 cobra, but right now I need just about every dollar I can save(college) and a s/c'd car just would be that more harsh on the money status. They are definelty badazz cars though, and long after graduation I hope to get one. Plus with the 01s not being bown, with good maintenance you can expect longer engine life. thanks for the info man!

personally, ide just get a 96-98 cobra...since your in college, i know your tight on cash, and there is only a 15hp difference between the 2. and if you like that body style, just get a 99

Yeah, Ive really thought about that also. I like the earlier body style, but ever since my father bought our 2000 GT I have really fell for the newer more angled body style, but if a really great deal comes up with an ealier model I'm definelty going to look into it! The other advantage about a newer 01 is that they are more likely to still be lower mileage than the older cobras, still sweet cars though!

As far as the LT1 beating a '01. . . only if he's lying about his mods. I've raced many LT1s and from a punch I've walked all over them and i'm stock. Includes my friends LT1 SS camaro. They run strong but i wouldnt worry.

I was also in the same boat when i bought my '01. couldnt cough up the extra 8-10k for the 03 but didnt want to worry about the '99. and for some reason at least around here the 99s dont run as strong as the '01. i understand that "technically" they are the same thing. however i think ford worked the bugs out in 01. plus the interior is cooler

Good luck either way

I'm not steppin on anyone toes here....But i recall the Camaro Z28 beating up on the Mustang every year until it was retired in 2002.....And what does that mean....It means that the 97 LT1 Maros were faster than your96-98 COBRA's....The 99 01-02 Cobras all run low 14's.....BUT the factory claims they run high 13's.....I beat one with my stock 2000 Convertible GT i used to own...I took 400 dollars from a guy i know out here and he was supposed to have 320 horsepower to my 260 and i beat him about a carlength both times. We both had convertibles.

thats a fair statement and i would say your mostly correct. however i've seen some very fast '96 cobras which ran upper 13s stock. depends on driver.
and for the race on a 99-01 cobra, good kill. but i've race more than one GT, pulled them by multiple cars.
my '01 cobra ran a 13.8@101 with a 2.2 60 and that was the second time i ever launched my car ..when i got a better 60 i spat out the IRS. 14s maybe if they cant drive.
Go race an '01 cobra with a good driver and tell me how you do. If you get him then you have a very strong GT to be proud of.

Dude, just b/c you payed $60K for a GT Mustang with a blower, doesn't mean you have to constantly troll me. It would be amusing, but you suck at trolling. Where the hell is Darwin when you need him.

Some peoples kids...

95lt1...yeah your right about camaros and everything beating a mustang STOCK..you put some gears in a cobra and you see what happends..and their is no way in hell your stock gt beat a cobra..unless the guy didnt know you were racing or he went from 1st to 5th..a 1996 cobra runs a 13.9 in a quater with 3:27 gears..so where do you get 14 second screamers from?Oh yeah..and what do you do here anyways?..what do you just search through here looking for someone that even says andyhing about GM cars and then try to stick up for them?Face it buddy the f bodys are dead..the cobras ate em all up

Damn you guys are stupid. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the new Cobras or Mach 1's, they're awesome. Your cars however, are POS's when it comes to racing. From '93 til '01, Ford never made a car to hang with the stock LT1, much less an LS1. Most of the people on here agree with me about this, however, there are a few exceptions. Maybe one day you'll get to meet my friend Education, he's a pretty nice guy.

So with a pro driver they run 13.9.....so with an average driver they're a 14 second screamer.

Cobras ate them all up.....a new Cobra can barely beat a N/A f-body, much less a FI f-body, give me a break. If we were comparing a Honda to a Cobra you'd say "no replacement for displacement," how come that doesn't hold true here?

God I hope you're smart enough to comprehend what I'm saying.

I just got done talking with your so called friend Education... Hasn't seen you since the first grade!
However you can find some of this info on the I N T E R N E T ...it's a vast wealth of knowledge ...maybe you can find something out about cars before you make some comments like that.
