ORIGINAL: 95LT1 Actually, I was referring to the LT1 vs '96 Cobra as you oh so subtly eluded to. Not the '01 SVT. Ah, the joys of not reading the whole thread. Please think first, read everything, then reply. Thanks for trying though.
.....ok if you say so. OH LOOK I found something!

From '93 til '01, Ford never made a car to hang with the stock LT1, much less an LS1.
Dunno whether you will need a dentist or Dr.Scholls because you just put YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH!

"Intruder LS1, are you a good driver, sounds like your techniques are wierd, shift 100 RPM's above your peak torque output? WTF? what if you make peak torque at 4,000 or 4,500? "
Good catch silvercoup (BTW, my dream ride is your arch rival, the 68 Z28 ), my fingers must have gotten ahead of my brain on that one. He's right, if you shift only 100 rpm's above peak torque numbers, your new gear will put you well below your power band. You want to shift just high enough above your power band, that the next gear puts you at the beginning again. If that makes any sence. Thanks for the save '68.

To your comment, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. The '97 vs the '01 stock for stock, are going to be VERY close, w/ the pony having enough advantage to win w/ identical drivers. But don't count out the extra air he's pulling into that LT1. It's not a lot I grant you, but it'll give him an extra 20hp at the wheels (worst case) And being an F-body guy, I can pretty much tell you that he's either got an 80mm-88mm TB, and it's not just a K&N filter, but probably an entire CAI setup from SLP, which is very good. ( Better than the one they make for the LS1) I'm not saying he can't win, I'm just saying the burden of needing to be the better driver lies on him. (and let's face it, w/ a stock set-up, both of these cars are VERY easy to drive.
Okay, I'm done now. Just posting my random thoughts tonight it seems.

IntuderLS1 - i dont think a TB will pull in 20rwhp but for argument sake we're taking a LT1 TA, no one has said if it were a WS6, so i'm going to say it isnt. Now would you say ohhhhh a 97 LT1 camaro SS would be the equivelent of a TB on a TA? I would think roughly that the ram air would help on a highway race.
I dont mean to be the know it all here...but i think of everyone on this thread, i'm the only owner of a stock '01 cobra who's run LT1s. From there i've raced standard LT1s, SS's, and WS6s all at the most were basic upgrades (exhaust, TB, CAI) im sure. I havent lost to one yet. Now LS1s, COMPLETELY different story. Or i could have a well built '01, who knows. However MM&FF (i'd say equal to a very good driver) could pull the '99 cobra to 13.6s ...only artical i found was a 99 with lowering springs and weaker tires which would only hamper the 1/4mile time according to the editor. Of course driver will be a huge factor from a stop but from a hwy...money on the cobra everytime.
TICEngineering will back me up on my statements being he's ridden passenger on many races, and i'll gladly admit if someone hands my a$$ to me. I'll say it again, the LT1 is a stong motor and there are plenty around here i'd stuggle to see tail lights... i just havent had the pleasure of racing them yet.
I think we beat this to the ground now... only thing left is for 00MustangGT to buy a '01 Cobra and race this TA. Just please be an equal or better driver than me
Fair deal, we both have our own oppinions. I'm still pretty sure that a new TB, + a better flowing filter would be 20hp (they both CLAIM close to that by themselves 'incorrectly' , and these two units work in unison), but who knows?? Anyway, like you said, the entire thread is for not. He hasn't purchased his new SVT pony yet. You've raced the LT's, and you're an '01 Snake, so I'll tip the argument in your favor, as my posistion was (is) purely academic. (I've never raced an LT1 against a newer Cobra) I may be a Chevy guy, but I still know that real world experiance trumps acadamia every day of the week. Good thread, and good posts all around. GL to the poster in getting his new ride on the road sooner rather than later. Peace.
Until your last post...i was thinking your argument was TB only. My bad. CAI and TB would probably pull 20. havent seen any dynos for CAI and TB on a Trans Am though. however i know that aftermarket TBs are over rated on stock cars though especialy on LS1s and thats all i was thinking.

Just be carefull w/ the schmack talking, or you'll motivate GM, and possibly wake up a new generation F-body. Peace.
and i can only hope that enough shmack talk was written...i'd love to see the return of the F-body. i had a '94
actualy.. an aftermarket TB would probably be hurting him more then helping him if he is indees stock other then that and a filter. a 52MM TB "might" gain him a little bit but not enough to do anything without a CAI and much better exhaust. if he went with an 58MM TB then he is fuged since it;s way way too big and turbulant for stock aplication and you have to port the intake for it. sure he should run a 13.8- 14.2 or anywhere inbewteen but he still sounds like a weenie.
Oh don't I love how most of you guys probably haven't raced an LT1 vs. a Cobra. And all you can do is write about how a good driver in the LT1 will take the cobra to the bank.. and gears in the cobra will smoke the LT1. BLAH BLA BLAH BLA BLAH!!! How about you guys go out and drive your cars and get better at driving instead of just dreaming about it?

I have ran against many ss and z28s cameros and i have also ran against trans am. The trans am is a beast. The stay right with me until i hit 3rd. And then i am gone but they are not that far behind. If you get your shifts down right you will be ok. I have smoked ss and z28 cameros all the time. For some reason they are always trying to pick on me. So i just show their asses up LOL. Good luck
I think he's implying that he leaves the LS1 once he hits 3rd.....he must know how much of a top end dog LS1's are .
Those CamEro's are slow anyway, I'd let this one go Dan. Probably lead to us showing those useless facts to only be called names for it. Really not worth it.

Blacksnake, do NOT forget that near the end of the 99 Cobra production, they had already started to 'fix' their problem, hence the lower ET you saw.
whats your point?
and for the chevy boys... why would you bring up the LS1s? the discussion was between an 01cobra and a LT1. i'll give mad praise to the LS1s...awsome motor....or are you just upset that were tourching the LT1. barely knowing this board you probably wanted to through out an argument for argument sake, and say that we have been flaming LS1s. thats fine, that can be your little secret.
Now i am not saying they are ****ty cars. **** i would much rather drive a domestic then a import anyday. Unless its like a s2k or nsx or the other sport/exotic imports. I almost bought a ss camero before i bought my cobra. But i am much happier with my cobra then i would have been with the ss. Still the vette camero ta are all very good cars. DOMESTIC POWER! 99 cobra
Well the name of the game is "Run What Ya brung" I have yet to lose to a mustang/Cobra with the same mods as me, BMR Suspension, Slicks, 3.73 Gears, hooker Headers, hypetech III ET 13.1 ET with 100shot of NOS 12.22 Had to use it on 05 Cobra, but hey he had a super charger

It was a 2003 Cobra( sorry typo). Damn good Race though best one I ever had. He ran a 12.46. We ran 3 time, took it out 3 times. I'm all about the fun. To be honest I thought he was gonna take me out. I still give props to the 03 Cobra. That thing terrorizes the streets.
