actually silver is only at 32% and it is the most popular car color right now....so its impossible for red to make up 36% of the market. Maybe you looked up the percentage for sports cars?
I got a wreckless Driving charge back in December, and last week i got my 2nd wreckless Driving + illuding police officer . Don't ask, my liscense will be gone for a good while.
Usually cops don't sweat people in new cars that look like they cost some money. If you bling 'em out and/or bow leg a car you're gonna be harassed because they think (know) you are a kid.
I got pulled over once, for tinted license plate covers. Luckily the cop didn't ticket me for it, but he said he could have. Lame. But then again, I always treat them with respect, they have crappy jobs.

According to Dupont (major paint manufacturer) Bright red is on 3.8% of the cars out there, not 36%
I think 20/20 lost a decimal place somewhere.
Think about it. If red WAS 36% of cars, but only three percent of the traffic stops, that would mean red paint was an incredible defense against getting stopped.

Most cops have learned from experince that young drivers are more at risk for an accident. They are just doing what they are taught, and thats teenage or young drivers are easy prey for a violation. Just pay atttention to the rules of the road, stop means stop, 35mph means 35mph not 39mph. Use your turn signals, seatbelts, ect and keep the wheels between the lines, this will not keep them from watching you but it might keep you alive and with cheaper insurance rates in the future.
Hangin there and don't get an attitutude toward the police when they are just doing their job.
I was driving way too fast the other day (100+ mph) when I topped a small hill, there was a motorcycle cop with laser aimed right at me. I just slowed down, used my turn signals, waved at him as I went by and pulled over on the shoulder about 20 yards in front of him. He rode his bike up to my car, got off, came to my window and asked "What made you think I was coming after you" I told him I was the only one out here driving too fast and figured might as well pull over. This cop told me the laser clocked me at 98mph at 1900 yard, (which is beyound the calibrated range of 1600 yards but I keep my mouth shut) and wanted my Lic, registration, and prove of insurance. I said yes sir and told him it was in the glove box, he told me to get it. I gave the stuff to him, and waited while he went back to his motorbike. I was thinking ohh ****, that fast on a 60mph limit, I'm going to need a lawyer and some bail money. Any way the cop came back with my lic and stuff, handed it to me and told me he was not going to give me a waring, because I was "going too fast" but would only cite me for going 10 over as in 70mph in a 60mph zone. I said thankyou and I then told him about just getting the car and was just pushing it to see what it could do. He told me nice stang, liked the color, and to slow down. I turned the ticket over to an Lawyer friend at work, he got it negoitated down to an equip violation, but I got to pay triple fine and court cost as a deterrent. The cop remembered me from the car and didn't hesistate agree to the plea bargin with the court. So what I guess I'm trying to say, is just stay cool, don't get all upset when you get pulled over, be polite and remember to show respect. This will go far in reducing the impact of being young and driving a hot car which by design draws attention to your self.
good luck, and have fun driving. :)
ps i am 50 year old kid with the neatest looking car in high school ;)

guess i lucked out? i drive fast just ask Juntin_r hes seen me blazing down the roads.
Well you know i talked to a lot of cops and they say if you admit that you did it 70% of the time they will let you off. So I always admit it and well i got a ticket. My step dad is a lawyer so in court I always get off with just paying **** and then take a class everytime which your only allowed 1 a year but i got a little more than that. I always treat the cops with respect and admit i was wrong but i guess they dont like me!!ha
Keep the stories coming guys, good reading!
My first ticket was at 430 in the morning. I was in High school going to varsity basketball practice. The cop was coming over the hill and got me for 20 over. I was soooo tired i didnt know how fast I was going. Personally I thought i was going like 5 or 10 over. So he pulled me over and didnt hesitate to give me a ticket right away. I told him what I was doing and im sorry blaw blaw and he gave me a ticket i was late to practice and had to run a crap load!! After school that same day i got pulled over for going around a turn to fast and my back end slid out (a little damp outside) He threatend to take me to jail for reckless driving and all this ****. I apologized and he let me go after like 45 min of telling me im going to jail. Very weird!!
I got plenty of stories but ill save some for later!!

I keep my car tastefully modded (something that would appeal to a broad age range, so I don't scream "twenty three year old male at the wheel"), and I've noticed this problem with police as well.
I was caravaning back from visiting my sick grandfather last summer in a caravan all going 15mph over the limit (70 in 55). I was in the middle of the caravan and got pulled. Let off with a "non functioning tailight" whew.
Got pulled on suspected DUI for simply being out at 3am, was not DUI, or "drifting out of my lane", think this was just for being out at 3am and driving an eye catching car.
I get tailed all the time when I'm not even keeping up with traffic.
I drive probably the least conspicous color (windveil blue) of the car besides perhaps Black or Silver (or tungsten grey).
Could just be in Atlanta. The recent months have put a slew of other 05/06s on the road, so now I'm not a unique little creature, so hopefully all this goes away.

I was a cop for twenty six years. I love to read all this "stuff". Amusing myths.
Hey TINO, I worked in Maryland. I really wish we that the officers have all the down time to do all the stuff that you suggest. The end of the month "quota" thing is for car dealers, not cops. The quota thing is the biggest myth of all the myths that I read on this series of posts.
Young people driving performance cars and making them perform from time to time. Your driving attracts attention, not the "color" of the car or the driver.
As for the STATE POLICE having performance cars, it just makes good sense to fight fire with fire. Street racing is stupid and a serious safety issue. It is the job of the police to protect drivers on the road, if they need a covert car to catch street racers, go for it.

When I was in FL there was an 05 Black GT cop car. I loved it. I thought it was the coolest thing. Having cops wanting are car!! If i were a cop I know thats the car i would want to be driving. Nobody would evr think ur a cop also.
djl my car is stock, so why would they follow me? Is it the red color, the new conv, or what? Is it true if you admit to speeding or whatever u did wrong they usually let you go? Got any great stories for us?
Loving the stories, keep them coming.
I am off to VEGAS tomm. so it will be awhile until i check back and hopefully i will check back a rich rich man!! Turning 21 30min after i get off my flight! What an awesome way to turn 21!!! If i come back a winner its all going into the STANG!!!!!! maybe college, but i doubt it!!

So you're saying that a neon green civic with a 16 year old driver wouldnt attract any more attention than a blue civic with an 80 year old driver?
only the crazies are out after midnight...lol thats what my mom used to tell me when I bitched about my 12:00 curfew.... the only dui I ever got was in atlanta (gwinette county) and let me tell you they don't play! i blew .08 which was the limit, they took me to a marta parking lot and put me in a paddy wagon with about 8 other dui'ers and took as all in at the same time. all night long they were bringing in 6 to 8 people at a time. dui task force i think they called it...talk about about money maker for georgia! seriously though, don't get cought in atlanta!

yeah the DUI things are ridiculous, I can't tell you how many times I've hit a roadblock on the way home from the bar (whether I'm driving or someone else is, we're real responsible with DDs). We have 3 different DUI squads in the Atlanta Area, the state trooper "Nighthawks" is what got me most recently, the DeKalb County STAR team (also deals with drugs, but is heralded for it's DUI arrest record). Gwinett has their own version of the STAR team, but I can't remember what it's called. Either way, Atlanta has horrible public transportation and is a commuter city in the truest since, because typically you have to commute to the good bars/clubs. If you're out in the A, then take a cab. I can't tell you how many of my friends found out the hard way that Atlanta was cracking down on drunk driving (about 5 years ago).
i was just driving 101 in oregon yesterday and was going about 95 to pass all the cars before the passing lane was up and right when i peaked the hill a cop was coming the opposite direction i start seeing him turn around and i ditched him on a side road that went around the town i was coming too, well the cop went up the hill and around and met up with me a few miles down the road. he clocked me at 89 in a 55 its a $421 ticket now i am trying to find a way out, its my 4 ticket in 12 months. the cops was very nice though
