You'll be fine just leave the car running and stay away from the coil packs and alternator and go easy on the battery and fuse box. Spray degreaser all over before hand. P>S> don't sray too close to your headliner....you'll shred it apart. But do clean it!!!

I HAVE BEEN DETAILING FOR 10 YEARS...NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WASHING DOWN AN ENGINE. STAY AWAY FROM THE ALTERNATOR,SPARK PLUGS,COIL PACKS AND ELECTRICAL BOXES. DO IT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, AND KEEP IT RUNNING TILL EVERYTHING DRIES. WHEN DONE SRAY ARMORAL ALL OVER AND WIPE OFF. NO MORE THAN 1/2 HOUR FOR BRAND NEW LOOK

Not posting here to bash anyone, but I have a few comments: First, Simple Green does work extremely well, but make sure it is diluted well. Most people do not realise, but SG is extremely corrosive. It will start to corode the metal unpainted surfaces after a few years if it is not completely rinsed clean (or if not diluted). I found this out the hard way after having to partially re-skin a couple of airplanes that I used to use SG to clean the belly with for years. I talked with a SG representative that warned me of this possability if not diluted. I still use the product, but conservatively. Second, It is NEVER a good idea to wash the engine bay with the engine running. This is a fairly common way to hydraulic lock your engine. Yes, most of the time it will work out fine, but I don't take those kind of chances. For what it's worth, I too use GUNK engine degreaser followed by GUNK engine bright followed by a careful pressure washing. Works great for me, but there must be at least a thousand different ways to do this! Good luck, Troy BTW, again, not bashing anyone, just pointing out a few things that may save everyone some cash in the long run.
Everyone has given some really helpful tips and how to's. Looks like I'll have a small project this weekend! Another thing for me to be obsessive about...
