Just bought a 06 pony package v-6.Its a great car ford really did a great job on the design but really could use some suspension mods. What do i have to do to make it handle to 1 g or more in a corner and still be comfortable to ride on normal roads and not loose your teeth.I have 17 inch bullet wheels and would like to stay with these if posible.I have looked at various suspension kits like roush, saleen, steeda, svt ford perf, shelby, will these work for the v-6 model? What kind of performance would i get and how do they compare to each other? How low should i go?what size tires would work best?Would i have to do something to calibrate the speedo if going lower then original tires like 45 or 40 series?

Handling 1G or more, and still being a smooth ride are exact polar opposites on a Mustang....

Cars that reach 1G from the factory I can probably count on my 10 fingers, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT, Mercedes McLaren SLR, and the new Z06 Corvette come to mind. We're talking 80-1million $ cars.

I wouldnt worry about the lateral G's as much as the handling/feel of the car.

Start your search with these parts.... Shocks/Struts, Springs, Panhard Bar, Lower Control Arms, Upper 3rd Link, Swaybars. All of these mods are popular starting points. The Ford Racing Package covers shocks/struts, springs, swaybars, and is a GREAT value. I would start with something like this. Another great option is combining the new Tokico D-spec adjustable shocks with performance springs. The nice thing about the D-specs is that you can adjust the stiffness to your liking.

After you do these suspension mods, they will provide a better foundation for extremely grippy tires, and you will definitely see an improvement in cornering G's....

Most customers do not lower the profile of their tires without increasing the rim size (18 inch, etc.)... that is the route I suggest...

Sincerely,

I was recommending the Ford Racing package because of the great value, and it will get you started in your goal.

The Ford Racing springs, as well as the Steeda springs are more performance oriented than the Eibach or H&R.

Roush products for the most part are made by Steeda Autosports... Saleen I have no clue...

Sincerely,

I think I want to go with the Tokico D-specs for adjustability...what performance springs do you recommend? I autocross my Mustang, and it's my daily driver - so I need a good balance.

Thanks! Dave

BTW...I have the '05 GT

I would suggest the Steeda Sport springs, part # 555-8215. They lower about 1 inch, and are a good mix between handling & comfort...

Here is a link to the product... http://www.stangsuspension.com/store/comersus_viewitem.asp?idproduct=481

I decided to go with the steeda sport springs, probally some d-specs,but not sure.Wondering when konis adj will be available, might just wait for konis. For the tires i like the 17 wheels and dont like how big the 18s and bigger look.Looks allright on a truck but i dont think they look cool on a sports car.I also want the car lower to the ground.I would like a tire just a little bit lower then the stock 235 55 17 seems a bit tall and narrow. What size tire would you guys recomend.Or maybe just wider. But will i get into a high performance tire that will grip as well as the lower profile tires?I had a rx7 with Tein suspension 17s with 40 series tires and that thing stuck like it was glued to the road.I would like to get the same performance from the mustang. The only thing i dont like about the ford suspension package is its not adj which is a bummer if you want to fine tune the handling of the car.As for sway bars do you think steedas are the top of the line for a track/street car?

As far as Koni or Bilstein... it is up in the air on when they're actually going to be released. I can promise you that StangSuspension.com will be one of the first sites to sell them when they're first available....

As far as the tires, it is impossible to suggest a tire size without knowing the width of the rims. Without the width measurement, I cannot give you an accurate height/width of the tire...

Sincerely,

Tires that are lower profile, but are wider on your rim would be a 245/50-17 or a 255/50-17 both will yield a lower profile and not throw off your speedometer too much.

Otherwise, you'll want to go with larger rims...
