Default power steering help

Here is a question for you guys. Has anyone had to change the high pressure and return lines for their power steering? If so, what is the name for the 6 inches of metal and fitting called. All the auto stores keep telling me the hose and how much of it do I need, but my hose is still good. I'm asking because I now have to fill my power steering pump up at least twice a day and the leak looks as though it's coming from the fittings at those lines. Another mechanic told me to check the rack and pinion. If anyone has had any experiance working with the rack and pinion seal, I would love to hear any and all tips so I don't spend all day figuring it out. Oh, by the way...'98 3.8L Thanks everyone.
