That thread about the project car but building the engine first......got me thinking

How much is a 351w small block new?
How much would it cost to be stroked to a 408?
How much Power difference would it be from a 351 to 408?
Is it possible to make a 351w (stroked to a 408 or not) 450 HP N/A run good on 93 octane pumpgas? How much would it cost.



Btw, a while ago somone asked if it was possble to get 400 N/a out of a 302. I said my brother got 450, I was mis informed and am not sure right now what he was pushing at the wheel, or motor.

Yes a 351 can go to 408 and also 418 and I think even a 480?We had a mustang with a 408 with mildly ported 185 cc edelbrock heads and a 200 shot of juice and it ran 10.2 at 141 with a 5 speed.Total we had about 5 grand into the motor.You can buy a 351 block used for a couple hundred and have the block notched for the stroker crank for 300$ The stroker kit is about 1800.00 bucks

What I asked was what would I make on a 351 vs. a 408.. (a.k.a how much of a difference in HP)

I was looking on Summit.

Theres the 351w ford block. Or, theres the Dart Iron eagle 351.

How much power will the dart withstand over a ford block?

Personally, I would buy a short block bored and stroked... Ready to rock and roll... I dont know what the base horsepower of a 351w is... if you want engine figures mine would be somewhere around 520 hp.. a 351w 250 or 275? I dunno...

If I buy the dart 351w block. Get it bored to a 408
Buy the 408 stroker kit


What else would I need? Heads, cam, intake?

So for 2400, I can get a Dart block.
1500 I can get the Street/strip 408 stroker kit............Or...whats the competition kit for 500 more?
Couple hundred for the block bore.

What would be good heads to go with that? afr 205's? or is that too much? or what....Also, should I get the Dished, or Flat piston stroker kit?

You can get a brand new in box 408 stroker kit on ebay for 899.99. Comes with eagle rods too

I'd say get that one.
