Status: offline How come the 2000 Nissan Maxima with a V6 has 222 HP while the Stang is only 190HP for 2004 models. Whats up with that? Does any know why Ford puts out such a weak v6?

GT Mustang is only 260HP... sounds weak for a GT???

Because 6-cylinders aren't anything to care about. V8's are smarter and definetly more fun.

I would say it is easier to mod Ford engines than Nissan engines. I don't know anything about them, but I would take my stock 96' GT over a 6-cylinder with more power.

Looks to me like Ford is just scheming to make more money on the GT. They could make a v6 with 220HP but make it 190 to force people into buying a GT with 260HP.. which I think they could probably make it with 290HP.. but then they come out with "cobra" and other names and charge more for more HP.

Anyone know why Nissan has better engineering to get more out of a V6???

Status: offline Probably because people who buy Maxima's don't really care about HP...They are looking for something else in a car. Mustang owners are into HP alot more. Nissan is just marketing what sells. Ford figures if your into power you will buy a GT. Ask a Maxima owner how much horsepower they have under the hood and the majority can't give you an answer......

Status: offline So basically Ford is scheming the public to buy a GT. The GT only puts out 260 HP for 2004 model. That is ridiculous consider a V6 Maxima can pump out 222 HP and the newer Maxima puts like 260 on a V6...

Sounds like a V8 is a waste of gas for only 260HP.

I get it now.. its a Ford marketing scheme...

are you sure its only 22hp ? my friend has a 02 maxima v6 and he always brags how it was 250hp, i looked it up a couple of times and thats what all maxima spec webpages say.

fords V-6 is in no way "weak" it may not have alot of power but it is not in any way "weak",

For $10,000 more than a base model Mustang you better be getting more then leather seats and two more doors.. You get what you pay for..

cos you pay more for a maxima than you would a ford mustang v6 and you pay more for a GT than a maxima...these days though the Maxima cost more than either the V6 or GT.

That's why the Mustang GT now has 300hp

You get what you pay for. I don't know about the cars but the Nissan Titan and Frontier are both built in the U.S. now too.

Highstrung V6's like the 350Z newer Maximas and Altimas leave little room for improvement with aftermarket parts unless you want to drop some serious coin into them. Most people that buy a stang or american muscle like to do some customizing on their own. The imports require more $ for $ than american cars to crank out the same % improvement over stock.

It takes alot of engineering to get 250 HP out of a V6. Maximas are pretty pricey and they have no torque anyway.

Status: offline You got the best answer I have heard yet. Makes complete sense. I can see how Muscle Car buyers enjoy modding their cars as opposed to the japanese cars that have their v6 push to the limit from factory.

yep that too.... Hate to say it but half of the high priced imports would be so much quicker if they had more tq...The new civic Si would be pretty goot but they can't even reach 175 ft lbs of tq...come on....

Bottom line is the Nissan V6 is a higher tech engine, which is also more EXPENSIVE to make....A Maxima(assuming it's the same year) will ALWAYS be more expensive than a V6 mustang, and more often than not a GT mustang also....

I'ts NOT a marketing scheme by ford to push you into buying a GT...they STILL don't produce ANY V6 that make's more than 221hp that is currently in any of their vehicles....Nissan was doing that in the 80's... They opt to put in the gas-guzzling V8 because they can make a fast pony car that is still AFFORDABLE....It's been working pretty well for 40 YEARS....why would they change the formula now ???

Also trust me a Japanese V6 is not PUSHED TO THE LIMIT by the factory. They can mod and make big power too....

Status: offline point is why would ford spend money to put in a high tech v6 in their cars? People who buy v6 stangs don't give a **** for performance in ford's eyes.

maximas on the other hand are a higher class of cars. gas mileage is important for nissan's cars so they opt for a v6. power is to be expected on a high class car so they put a high tech v6 in their car.

and comon, a high tech v6 in a muscle car? that doesn't follow Ford's tried and true formula for sales.

Yeah ford doesnt sell more V6's than GT's or anything BTW I belive the V6 in tyhe 350Z Gets the same mileage as the edge GT's
