howdy folks, im about done with my brake disassembly, i have the drums, and shoes off the front brakes. i am know only seing the cylinder on the back plate type thing. so, my left one looks ok, but when i took the shoe off, a little fluid ran down the back of the brake, its been raining reently, so it could just be some rain, or is it brake fluid, it looks kinda light brownish.
and when i took off the right shoes, and on the cylinder, the little rubber seal fell off, and the cylinder on that end was covered in white powder..........?
can anyone tell me what these thing are, and how to remove the cylinders overall, cuz im gonna rebuild or replace them.

You need to rebuild the cylinders ever time you replace the shoes. With new shoes the cylinder pistons will be back in worn territory. Either hone and rebuild them or replace them.
im probly gonna buy new shoes, and a new cylinder, my parents are saftey freaks, since ill have my permit in less than a month, and ill be driving this car pretty soon, and i live in mountainous N.C.
If one cylinder is defective, and the shoes are worn in the back, you can bet the shoes are worn in the front as well, and the brake cylinders in the front are about to give way. If I was you, I would do a complete brake overhaul. That means replacing all the brake components, and having the drums turned.
i know, my uncles a mechanic, and hes helping me get the right parts, but im doing all the labor, and the cars still running, and intact, so i cant have done too bad a job, i have a shop manual, which every person who ever buys a car, should have...................
but yeah, i think a complete overhaul is in order.....................
