Default Steeda Stage 1 Ups for V6

So heres the deal, I want to get Steeda's 99-00 V6 Stage 1 upgrade mod package for my stang. It comes with the steeda cold air kit, ud pulley, belt for the pulleys, and a diablo chip. All this together costs $620 which i thought was pretty good. i would buy this kit right away if i werent so nervous. First of all, im not sure i can do the work myself and i dont want to screw anything on my car up. Another thing is, is this worth it? Am i gettin a good deal on this package. And third of all, if i dont want to do the work myself, is it possible to take the parts i get to like a Merlin or another small autoshop? Im not sure of any local good shops, just know of the basic well-known ones like Merlin or Midas or soemthing like that. sorry for the long post but i need some answers. Thanks a lot guys.

None of the stuff that comes in that kit would be all that difficult to install. Even if you don't wanna do it yourself, if you have a friend or family member that is good with cars they should be able to do it pretty easily. It seems like an alright deal when it comes to steeda parts, but there are cheaper parts out there, it all depends on how high of quality you want. You could easily get stuff like MAC parts for cheaper than that.

is it a chip or a tuner? both will adjust shift points, firmness, limiters, you will have to run premium fuel, you can do all this with a tuner as well but you have more control over it

I live in suburbs of chicago but i dont know of any good local shops around here. The package just says "diablo chip" so i dont know what that is. I just dont want to mess my car up with the intake or the pulleys cus ive never installed anything before.

Those chip packages are generally pretty good. In your case, the UD pulley will be the hardest part because you have to buy or rent a puller, but not hard to do if you know how to follow directions and you have some common mechanical sense. The nice thing is, the chip is pre programmed for the mods. But pre programmed chips tend to be subtle for liability reasons. The nice thing is after you install everything and later on you want some stronger changes, you can get your car dyno'd and have the chip reprogrammed

is it possible to get one of the adjustable programmers and you know reprogram the ecu and adjust shiftpoints and all that...but still use 87 octane fuel?...i know it's better to use prem but gas is SO frickin expensive....is it possible to make HP gains without upping the octane?

1) easy to do but as stated you will need to rent a pulley puller for the harmonic balancer
2) the diablo chip is different than a hand held tuner. Diablo piggy-backs on your PCM/ECU where-as a tuner changes the settings in the ECU/PCM
3) You could do the CAI and Chip yourself and just have the pulley's done by a shop. Do a cost comparison, rental of puller vs labor to install.

P.S. don't go to a muffler shop for engine work.
