JUST GOT BACK FROM MY FIRST TRY AT THE RACES AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY IN AZ. I HAVE A STOCK 98 MUSTANG V6 AUTOMATIC WITH A FEW MODS, NOTHING BIG. RAN 17.407 AND IT MAKES ME DEPRESSED. I EVEN DID REALLY WELL WITH THE R/T HAVING A .436. ITS STILL DEPRESSING WHEN I SEE ALL THE OTHER CARS RUNNING 12'S, 13'S, AND 14'S. I THINK THE ONLY OTHER CAR THAT RAN OVER 16 WAS AN OLDER MINI COOPER THAT RAN 20'S. I NEED TO GET ME A DIFFERENT CAR. I HEAR DODGE HAS A 13.9 NEON THEY MAKE NOW FOR 20K.

Hi,
well, you should probably buy a GT if not a cobra. Dont go dodge though. They do put out an SVT neon which is called the Neon SRT. 290 hp at the fly and it runs 13.9s in the quarter. Lookin at the mag right now actually. If yer gonna get that car, make sure its for your daughter. A great gift for a girls 16th b-day. reaction time of .436? Isnt that a red light? I know I get perfect lights at .502. Are they on a .25 light system where yer at?

hey, where we run its .400 for heads up style racing. a .401 aint a redlight round here. just depends on the track. read a magazine, some of the faster classes (pro 5.0 for example) run .400 lights in a heads up format. if your bracket racing, yes, a .436 is a redlight, but in SOME places they run .400 for heads up. some places run .500 for heads up. just depends on the track. my dad (damn oldschool) still refuses to believe .001 is a redlight. but he hasn't dragged in 20 years. things change dude. some tracks are different than others.

It's not, far from it now adays.
Chrysler's quality sucked mid/early 90's (except Jeep), but when they started to go bankrupt, borrowed $$$ from the federal govt., and listened to consumers, they pulled a 180 in that department.

Dude whatever you do do not buy the srt4. First off its a girl car. Second if you buy that car, in a few years you better get you checkbook out because i have heard those cars are not reliable at all. But if you really want to get it, it is the fastest car for under 20 grand.

WOW, those are some awful times. My friend with a stock 2000 V6 5 speed ripped a 15.8. All he did after was a home made cold air and got it down to 15.7 & with new gears he got her down to 15.4!

Ok Firebird on Friday night runs a .500 light... On your time slip ( I think I was out there when you were because I remember a green V6 mustang running) the time you see (dont ask me why Firebird does this) is the time past .500. So your .107 is actually .607.
As far as the SRT-4 goes, its 215hp and 240lbs torque per Dodge's rating. Depending on the conditions and the dyno, most people are seeing 220hp and 240 to 250lbs of torque TO THE WHEELS. My best time at Firebird with it, at approx 105 degrees and somewhat humid is 14.22.
As far as "It's a girl car", whatever man. I can understand that some people may be a little hurt that a car 4 thousand less than a stock 4.6 and generally DEPENDING ON DRIVER walks a STOCK GT by half to a full car legnth in the quater, might resort to making that claim, but thats not the case. Not too mention with 1500 in mods will give a Cobra a run for its money.
Reliability... Well you can say what you like about Dodge, and of course everyone is entitled to your opinions, But I wouldnt worry too much about "problems down the road". You get the standard 3/36 like you do from Ford. You also get a 7/70 powertrain at NO ADDITIONAL COST. Dodge also offers to expand the original 3/36 to 5/75 for an addition 1500 bucks. I have yet to see any domestic car maker do that other than Dodge so far.
All in all the car is nice, its fun to drive and its cheaper on insurance, gas, and purchase price. You also dont have to look at one every 2 miles. As of right now in the Phoenix Metro area there are less than 20 and in the first year of production from Dodge they plan on making I believe 3500 total. If your looking for a decent car with good performance numbers, dont be afaid to look at an SRT-4. They arent bad cars, just some folks have bad opinions of them... Maybe seeing too much of the tail lights :)

ok, dodge sucks, im sorry to say but my mom has a caravan, not that it compares to a neon in about anything, BUT some of the parts are the same, she just got new drums and brakes and it took 12 hundred dollars out of her checkbook. So far that car has costed her up into her neck and its worthless. im not impresssed with dodge at all, my .02, and no offense to anyone, i know some peeps respect neons, but i think they are a chick car

You're going to the wrong shop for brakes.
Also, get your head out your ass, something that hauls with GT's ain't no chick car.
And SRT boy DEFINATELY got you on the warranty thing. No manufacturer puts something like that out unless they know they won't get rapped by warranty issues.
