One of my "car guru" friends told me about this "orange peel" effect that is seen if you look at a cars body from the side. Any of you guys get it taken off...he said it was pretty dangerous if you didn't know what you were doing.

Haha, its like these very small dimples imbedded in the body of the car. Supposedly, show cars get it professionally removed to give it that "being able to look 100 miles into your car" look. Sounded pretty cool to me too...
well hell yeah it is. it isin the actual basecoat, itis there because the factory doesnt sand the paint, they just spray it on. a good custom paint job sands between all the layers to get rid of the orange peel. pretty much all factory paint has it.
to fix it you ahve to sand through the entrire clear coat on the whole car.then sand the basecoat thoroughly, then re clearcoat it. Really expensive.
To get rid of it you have to wet sand the car with extra super fine grit sand paper, like 5000 grit. then buff and polish and buff....ect. This is not for your average guy to do!!!! only a pro should try this and it will cost you...
The orange peel is hardly noticable beyond 3 feet away. But I know rubbing your butt all over the hood isn't going to make it any better(reference to your picture). Hope you didn't have velcro pockets!
