Default Distributor Gear Failure

I just got my 67 Mustang Fastback on the road after 4 years of hard work. I stuffed a 351W in it, and really enjoyed driving it. In less than 3 hundred miles the MSD distributor gear was destroyed and the cam gear was damaged as well. I was referred to a local Ford specialist for the machine work and also bought the cam from him. It was a cam grind that he sells a lot of, even his son uses one in his Mustang. He is now claiming that I have a bad block, even though I bought the block from a friend who had it on the street for a long time without any of these kind of problems. Has any else had this problem? How did you solve it? Please help, I'd like to get it back on the road before we get too far into the crusin' season.
