With the high price of gas, I'm *even more* glad I got the V6 over the GT. Pretty much every mod I made to the engine and exhaust was was good for some gas mileage too. I didn't get the advertised gains, but that could be the lead foot option I added. I noticed that the best thing for gas mileage is to use the cruise control. Today I averaged 23 mpg from home to work, which was all me driving conservative at the posted speed limits. 28 mpg from work to home at the same speed limits, using cruise as much as I could. Traffic seemed the same. My commute is about 10 miles of highway, and 12 miles of backroads with about 4 traffic lights. I can average 34 mpg at highway speed using the cruise, unless I head to NH and the mountains, then it all falls apart. Top up or down doesn't seem to matter much.
I was trying to keep that green dash computer screen off so I wouldn't think about gas mileage, then I filled my tank @3.29/gal for 93 octane last night. That poked me back.

The mileage on the sixxer is nothing to shout about, but from the posts I've read the GT gets much worse than the advertised rate. I'm consistently getting 24-26 with a bunch of freeway driving as part of my commute, but if gas tops 4 bucks a gallon I may be reconsidering what I drive. This is just insane, we really need to do something as a country to get out of our dependence on foreign oil.
Drilling in Alaska only postpones the inevitable, we've got to face the music sooner or later. How about a Mustang with a 3 cylinder hybrid in it? Woohoo! Man, I hope it doesn't come to that!!!!
My gas mileage/engine performance related mods are:
AEM CAI, Motoblu 25% underdrive harmonic balance pulley, Helix Power Tower throttle body spacer, Diablo 93 performance tune, single JBA axle back muffler, 37 psi in the stock tires, and using the cruise control more.
Non gas mileage mods include:
Hurst 5 speed shifter, front and rear Hellwig anti-sways, sequential turn signals and some Harley floor mats.
On deck still are the Eibach Pro street springs. I'm still researching the struts/shocks (only know about the Tokicos). And some bigger/better front brakes.
