I had an arranged race with one of my friends. hes got a stock 1998 Z28 ls1.. I raced him with all the mods in my sig. except for the pullies. still havent put those in yet. anyways, we raced from a dig but from idle. If we dropped, we would have spun like crazy because it was sprinkling all night. we each had one passenger. we raced 4 times. the 1st race i compeltely destroyed him. the second race he decided to drop it and beat me by 1.5 car lengths (i started at idle). the third race i spun a little and my traction control came on, he won by about 2 car lengths. at that point in time. he was really talking smack, so I turned trac off and completely raped him the last race. most fun Ive had in a long time! oh yeah, mines a convertible!

My buddies 00 LS1 auto was able to almost hang with my car from a roll when I was at full boltons, cams, 3.73s, etc etc. From a stop I could kill em though.
Just don't race him again in the dry till you have some more mods :)

Why is it that everywhere else but around here LS1 driver seem to suck at launching thier cars? I don't get it, cars around here actually are fast and everyone runs from a dig for the most part. Hell, in my group I am the slow guy.

i dont think that its so much the area, as it is the people that you know...
of the people whom i know in pittsburgh that have cars faster than me, they all run at the track, and dont bother street racing unless it is a light to light thing while out cruising around. the "street racers" in pittsburgh are people who have never been to the track, and their cars are typically slow, and if they went to a track, they would get murdered..and no, none of them drive KB cobras...;)
but regardless of track regulars, or "Street racers", i dont know of anyone who "races from a roll"...if youre rolling, its not racing, its speeding. racing happens from a stop.

I don't know man, even the street racers here go to the track, they just run with the clocks off so nobody gets a time on thier cars. Maybe they are just more serious about racing (I mean the people I know)

yeah..i know what you mean, as ive talked to erik about it before...the guys whom i go to the track with are a bunch of hemi guys (real hemis, not the new small block econohemi) and theyre all in the 8s-10s...and even the ones who are streetable, they keep it on the track. there is one area that i know of where alot of guys street race, and i do know one guy who goes there alot with a low 11 second AAR, but the police pulled a "fast and the furious" move, and sent undercover police in modded looking cars, and busted a ton of people...i never bothered, as i prefer the track, but i have done my share of street racing. mind you, im sure that its not as organized as the racing that you guys do, but im not an anti-street racing person..i just prefer the track.

not to hijack thread but to give some input on y I run on the street.
track opens april 30th for test N tune. ONLY 60$. then on june 3rd is the 1st street legal day, 35$. them days only happen 5 times a year. track is only open 6 months i believe.
so yeah, if i could go to the track more often i would have no need to run on the street. and if i do run on the street, its out of town

correct me if im wrong, please
but it seems to me that it would be 'safer' (all other things aside) to race a 13-16 second 1/4 mile car on the street, than it would be to do so in a 8 second car......
we all know that street racing is dumb, and that nothing good usually ever comes from a street race, but there are so many people that either don't know they can take their car to the track, are not close enough to do so on a regular basis, or are just retarded and don't want to go (or are'nt allowed) that they continue to race on a street
i think the biggest argument FOR street racing is that if i pull up next to some guy and we want to race. It would be 1,000X more difficult to say "hey, lets go to the track sometime and race" instead of just making a quick 0-70 sprint or so on the road
(note, im not saying anyone here is condoning street racing, just wanted to comment on the 8 second cars not street racing :D)

i think that alot of people who do race on the street do so more for "grudge matches"...but there have been several times where i have arranged to meet people who wanted to race me at the track, and weve both shown up, paid our 20 bucks, got to run each other, and other people..

I live around 50 miles from the nearest track.. so what I do when I find a car I want to run.. I'll take it only up to the speed limit in town's.. but I'll talk to guys, meet them on the side of the road and agree on a spot to meet up.. There are a lot of long, empty, flat, very good pavement condition roads around here, outside of city limits. We set a time, meet up somewhere, and drive to the country side to one of about 3-4 spots.. I see no harm in the way we do it. Its a bare empty country road with well over a mile of straight away (one of them is a 3 mile straight..), and we make sure there is no traffic at all. We dont waste time trying to mark off a distance.. we usualy just race till a set speed and call it good. If you watched the vids I posted last night you can see what I mean..
There is a big difference between street racing in the countryside away from anything to hurt, and street racing through the middle of a town where you have traffic and pedestrians... I just dont understand why people will reach insane speeds through the middle of a town, or anywhere there might be a curve or big potholes.. or especally when the race hinges on making the next green light.

HAHA! He doesn't even have a car. You should see the motor shot he showed where he used MSPaint to color the fenders to match "his car." ****ing posers. Someone ban this idiot already.
EDIT: found the pic. Give me a break.
Anyone ever notice how the guys with the "OMFG I'm Superfast" cars can't ever afford a camera? Odd, isn't it.

And the way everyone talks about everything makes me a sad panda.

+1 American muscle!
As far the thread.. you're damn lucky he doesn't know how to drive... I am not saying you didn't win, because i've beaten them when I had your mods... but be realistic - you won because he didn't know what he was doing. With my mods which are full bolt ons - headers, but with gears and suspension work and tires - I can beat just about 1/2 of the LS1 drivers depending on my launch and thiers.. You car needs some gearing.. if it wasn't a stock 3.27 in your car - then it might be believable (saying he's a good driver also). Also are you a 5spd or auto?

The guys in the mustang and Ford club I'm in are insane good drivers. I have also seen guys who can take an LS1 to its limits like it ain't sh*t. One day I will be able to run with these guys, but until I get more experience, it ain't happening.[8D]
Good kills, but you really do need quite a bit more on mods before you can really hang with LS1s. The only reason you won is because yuour stang is a DD, and the F-Body was the kid's old mans car.

Yes im completely aware that I won because of driver error. however the kick is that he still thinks hes just as good a driver as me. I know he can drive stick well, because he has a new edge Gt just like me. the Ls1 if his dads car. however when it comes to driving stick well when racing, its a different story.
