The 5.7L TPI available in 1987-1992 was available only with the TH700R4 (Auto). It weighed about 3300-3400 lb. The 1987 was limited production with no AC.
A really good driver could just squeek a LX HO Notch into the 13.80's and a hatch into the 13.90's. These cars were around 2885 lb for a no AC Notch and around 2970 lb for a AC Hatch. They also had a lot of easy freebie mods that could take up to 2/10 off that. The typical 5.7L Z28 was about the same ET as the heavier GT 5spd. The AOD Mustangs ran like crap though. The L98 ECM was also more picky about mods. The Corvette was 300 lb lighter than the F-Body with better exhaust and heads (Aluminum with better ports) and more compression and was a little quicker than the Mustang in stock form.

(Ducking and runnning for cover!)

PS For those of you that dont know her V6 Vert is faster than his modded GT500.

weather its tru or not, sounds a little far fetched.... unless that 6 cyl is running big boost or somethin... but anyway, we trying to stick to stock maaaannnn!!! but whatever, i cant stand 6 cyl's of any make or model unless the 6 is the only motor avaialble. maybe its just me but when a car has a muscle car body ie. camaro/mustang , it should not be allowed to have a non v8 option!

anyone else get that feeling?? even if a mustang or camaro is a v6 but the owner made it look like a v8 body, just cuz you know its a 6 cyl it doesnt look as good as a real v8??? just my 2cents

What you have to remember is, the Mustang and the Camaro thrived (the Mustang still does) on the V6 engine.

no, i know its thrives in sales on the 6 cyl, but you get what im saying about in a perfect world there would be no v6 rendition of an established muscle car.

alright so me and a couple of buddies at work today were talk about a stock mustang vs a stock camaro.. i said that the mustang has always out performed the camaro and they disagreed.. i was wondering if i could get so fact on both and some or your guys input... please dont be bias, i know this is a mustang forum and all but, we all konw what car is always gonna be the best. please take in to fact of lines of car such as cobra, ss, gt ,rs and the price of each staying within the same ranges and year. if anyone know of a good web site please let me know.. we can all swollow our pride and put this one to rest, if im wrong then i will admit it.. thank you for ur help..

The Camaro has been on top at least since the introduction of the Mustang II in 1974 and never really looked back.  When the Camaro (and Firebird) went out of production in 2002, a regular Z-28 (and Trans Am) was putting out over 300 horsepower while the Mustang was stuck at 260 and the SS and WS6 were rated at 325 but probably put out better than that.
