get the Predator Tuner, it will do that + so much more

No, go with the shift, it makes an amazing difference, a tuner does good, but it has no comparison to a shift kit. A tuner just adjusts the shift points, a shiftkit will make it shift on command when you want it to. Transgo is the best and make sure you do an intercooler too, you won't regret it!

^^^ This is a good place to start, get the tuner with a set of gears from mustangtunning or rpm outlet. Use that to make trans adjustments and see how you like it. For me it was not enough so I installed a Trans-go shift kit along with a trans cooler. If you get a shift kit I highly suggest (and wound not get the kit without it) you install a nice big trans cooler (the bigger the better). You can go on trans-go's website and try to find a place near you that sells the kits and order it from them; or you can figure out what kit you need for your car and fine it on E-bay.

Ebay has the transgo kits for less than a hundred. Ive got mine on order. Should make the auto actually shift instead of "float" into gear

theres alot to soak in.im not really sure of what to look for ,as i've said before this car stuff is new to me,,i never really cared to do anything to a car,i drove a probe for years..sorry dont laugh ,, but since i got a real car with a some balls,im wanting to learn all i can,and you guys at this forum is a bad influence, lmao in a good way, i have all these ideas with mods and have no idea where to begin, but was told a shift kit is a good start, how true this is i don't know

and what does a shift kit even look like?are the hard to install?

you can find some info on how to install a shift kit- try google- good pics also. Some people can do it, others cant. I guess you have to drill into the throttle body and Im just going to have mine installed by the shop thats putting in new gears.

As long as your modding a bit, definately put in some different gears. Will really wake it up without touching the motor. Gears and shift kit or tuner would make it seem like a whole new ride. As for what gears you ask? Dont bother asking. just use the search button and all your answers are there- as well as the stickies. Good luck

you will prolly not want to install a shift kit yourself its not easy, its new harder springs that go into the transmission that make the clutchs slam together harder causing less slipe between them thus makin firmer shifts and transferring more power.... in my v6 auto i had a shift kit put in and i LOVEDDDDDDDDD it my car would spin 1st chirp both 2nd and 3rd gear it hit so hard...but you have to change the springs and things and also drill one of the walls out in the transmission.... so definetly take it to a shop (might be differnt for v8)

Programmers won't help you shift firmness too much... Buy a decent valve body and convertor and get it all done at once...

But isn't part of the purpose of a shift kit to cool down the tranny, due to the shortened time of friction between the clutches??

I had my shift points firmed up using a Tuner and that was great...for a while. Then I had a higher stall torque convertor put in (only 2600) and cooler to help the 60' times at the track and it must have changed the line pressure in the AODE as I lost a lot of the firmness I had before. Putting in the Trans-Go Kit in a couple weeks to bring that SNAP back to the shifts. It will also allow the tranny to hold any gear, downshift manually at any RPM and as noted earlier, prolong the life of the AODE.

Installation isn't that bad. I did one in a friends 91 Fox last Summer with the help of her husband and I am just learning to wrench in my garage. You have to drop the trans pan only, not rebuild that transmission as previously mentioned. Pull out the valve body, replace some check balls and springs, possibly drill a hole or two in the main plate and valve body, and I think that's it. Beyond normal sockets, you should have snap ring pliers and a torque wrench. The one we did got a little messy dropping the pan and I highly suggest having one extra set of hands to make this easier but you could probably manage by yourself.

Oh yeah, HI, I'm new! :)

my tranny dont like to shift into 4th gear very well,i was pushing 90 the other day and it was still in 3rd i had to let off the gas to get it to shift, and sometimes it vibrates when it shifts to 3rd and 4th ,btw it an automatic...what would cause that?

Yeah the Diablo made my car SHIFT SOOOOO much harder,
but yeah shift kit/vavle body kit... will REALLY make it shift HARD.

I had the Diablo in my car and was fine with it.
then I put in my COnverter, and now my car shifts like STOCK Again.
so its time for a Vavle Body Kit/Shift Kit.

if you are going with a converter/have one... you need more then just hte DIABLO shift kit.

^^^^ This is true, but if you are going to have the trans fluid drained for the shift kit install, it would be a good time to install a shift kit plus it will defently help your trans last longer along with the shift kit.

Do you also have a cooler in that setup? If not make sure you get one since the kevlar band is going to produce a lot of heat, but it will very long :P

EDIT: I saw that you had one - nevermind :P

what is the difference between the transgo HD2 kit mentioned above and the SK®AODE (4R70W) kit from jdsperfmance?

jeez, i thought i had the perfect one, but had never heard of the HD2 kit... hope i made the correct decision...

is there a difference between a shift kit and a reprogramming kit?

actually, they are both transgo kits. i simply bought the transgo kit from jsdperformance.

if you read closely at the transgo site, under the info for the SKAODE kit, it says for 'harder shifts' go with the HD kit. now, is there really a difference between what the SKAODE kit does vs having 'harder' shifts with the HD kit?

Well, If they advertise it being stiffer, then I'd assume it is. I will let you know when I'm done :)

I just purchased the HD2 kit for mine and havent had it installed yet. So, I purchased the harder shifting one? I think there is one that is just a "rebuilder kit" which you put in when rebuilding the tranny and uses strong parts and has less slipage and the other one which is much harder to install. Not sure, I asked about this before and was told to get the HD2 kit. Hopefully it doesnt throw me around in the car while shifting....

and as soon as i get that im taking it to the tranny shop and having it installed, performance tranny rebuild kit and throwing in a stage 2 shift kit...hows that for a mod?

Hey,I dont have a cooler, dont need one. People will say you do, but unless your at the track all the time, I wouldnt worry about it. As for the shift kit I have Im pretty sure its http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRANSGO-FORD-AODE-4R70W-SHIFT-KIT-MUSTANG-5-0-4-6-F-150_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33727QQihZ009QQitem Z190221595025QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRANSGO-FORD-AODE-4R70W-SHIFT-KIT-MUSTANG-5-0-4-6-F-150_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33727QQihZ009QQitem Z190221595025QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW) this is the kit I think I purchased, and the place as well. I also put in 373 gears and now it rocks.I dont use it as a daily driver, but could since the shift kit only really shifts hard when "getting it on". hope this helps

+100

All you need is a drilled seperator plate and 2 new gaskets and you are ready to go.
I purchased my plate from VAP and am very happy with the service and shipping.
I asked a million questions, well almost, and got replies sometimes within minutes of asking.
Very friendly and fast shipping.

http://www.vapauto.com/

For *me* the Jmod was the only way to go.
The guy, Jerry, was an engineer on the 4r70W and nobody knows more about that tranny than he does.

There are 48 dozen ways to get firmer shifts on an automatic but all are not equal.
Some compromise the longetivity of the tranny and I was just not interested in that as my car is a DD but of course suffers from the slip and slide shifting that all stock stangs (auto) suffer from.

I installed the Jmod plate and a B&M cooler and the car is like a different animal.
Fast, crisp shifts that are pleasent for DD but will easily chirp the tires if you go 75 percent throttle or so.

Just the way I want it.

Follow the instructions, keep things SQUEAKY CLEAN, don't drop your check balls and take it slow and you should be able to do this.
One real plus with the Jmod is NO DRILLING OF THE VALVEBODY is needed.
Just the seperator plate and if you buy a pre-drilled plate you can always re-install your stock plate if you don't like the mod.

Lot's of great tranny information here:

i just had my tranny rebuilt(96' gt vert). new hd coneverter, hd clutches, hd bands, hd sprags and a shift kit. the shop tore it down to the case and rebuilt everything, even put in a new planetary gears. it shifts fast and hard. the rear end gets swirly from first to second and it still has the stock 3.27's in it. also got a 12 month 12k waranty.
