The other day this guy at work was driving a 350Z with a vortech supercharger and some nice wheels. He said it made 412 horses. So I asked him when were we going to race. So that night he gets behind me on the way home from work. He pulls up beside me on a straight away and we raced from 40mph. I stayed right beside him for the whole strech of about a mile I let off and he got in front of me. I was pretty proud of my car and dissapointed that a 412hp 350Z couldn't do anything more than just stay beside me. I love my car and would buy another one if I had the money. It just go's to show that American muscle can't be beat when it's at it's best. Hell yeah for the ford mustang.
Ya, I sort of wonder at the 350z owner's claim of 412hp as well (or being supercharged at all). With what you list in your sig I don't see how you could even be over the 300 mark yourself.
Yeah, that kind of surprises me. I would think a properly aspirated 350Z would be able to pull away from the GT, being that stock for stock the two cars are pretty close to begin with.
Differences are that the Mustang adapts nicely to even mild mods while the Nissans struggle because they are so high strung to begin with.
Stock for Stock, the 05+ Mustang GT will dust a 350Z (even the 300hp version) If he was pushing 412hp that's probably at the flywheel which means he's probably closer to 350 RWhp not a big enough improvement considering you're driving a modified GT.
The performance shop I go to has a new 350Z as a "shop mascot". They just put a turbo kit on it and it is making around 375 at the wheels. I have seen it spank 450hp Cobra's.

Performance mods: Lets just say it's not stock
Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
375rwhp translates to 450 crank (roughly) Cobras are also very heavier becuase of the iron 4bolt main block and IRS (about 300lbs more I believe than even a stock 05+ stang which is way more than a 350Z)
Not a clue on the mascot car the shop runs but if all the guy had was Vortech on the street, I can see what was described happening (just keeping up with 05+ stang)
Ok, put a mildly modified GT against a turboed 350....NO contest....
I have a friend in Atlanta that has a 350 Z turboed and its mean...
And it can make turns....not just go fast in a straight line....
i have to agree, my friend has a 350z, and im waiting on getting my GT...but a supercharged Z is fricken fast. I would think you would need atleast a supercharger ur self...
I don't see why they'd pull the motor out to test it's hp rating...

I have also raced a Supercharged Z with my WRX (AWD 325+ whp) and it was a hell of a race and very fast....I backed off....to much traffic for two cars that handle great and slicing and dicing....

You are correct on that, we had a guy that came to our dyno to test the car before and after the turbo upgrade. Let me tell you this 350z was a beast with just 8psi of boost (Turbonetics kit), big fat TQ curve and all. All this with a JW canned tune as well. Once this guy gets an EMS to really control the car I am ssure it will be even quicker.
to all you nasayers, he popped the hood and I saw the vortech supercharger myself along with 5 of my friends. So maybe the guy can't drive. I do have a 4:10, and a shifter. and no I do not have 400 hp.
and one more thing, i am not one of those ****ing ricers who like to make up little stories about how they beat a 400 hp mustang. I am not a liar and I stayed right with that son of a bitch. Believe me if you want to or not. Maybe it wasn't tuned right, but for right now I stayed right with it, and thats all that matters. Isn't this a mustang forum anyway, shoudn't you guys be giving me props instead of doubting the same damn car you have. Just wanted to give you my input.
no one saying ur lieing, relax. and yes, we all like mustangs, but were just trying to see how you keept up w/ a supercharged Z w/ such few modds done to ur car. Facts are facts, thats all.

you'd be amazed at some of the cars ive beat/kept up with namely: 350rwhp rx7 top end run (up to 160ish), pullied/tuned/slicks 03 cobra, cammed and bolt-on z28s and SS's, 911 carrera, c6 vette, gto's, dinan m5, and a few others. i totally believe this guy. the best a 350z has ever done against me was ~4car loss roll-racing and staying under 100mph...i don see how 8psi would knock 2sec off their 1/4 time either considering we can hardly do it with 2 more cyl and 70 extra cubes.
let the flames begin, im comfortable with my conscience, but i guess i must have gotten a factory freak cuz no s197 owners seem to think they stand a chance in such races

umm.. they don't On average what is rated at the rear wheels is about 15% less than what it woudl be rated at the flywheel. The reason is there are losses (Friction, heat, rotating masses) that drain HP and TQ numbers by the time they reach the wheels. Automatics typically lose a little more than manual tranny's thus you may sometimes see a bit of discrepency between Auto vs Manual numbers for identical cars.

we have more cyc and stuff, but stock for stuck...there almost has fast...gt from what ive heard does a 5.2 to 60 and the z is about 5.4. they also have a dohc as we are sohc and they still push close to 300hp and weght less... No matter how you look at it, stock for stock; it should be a close race. but add a super charger to one...that doesnt seem like a close race
