I kind of touched on this in my last question about my engine swap. Do torque converters go bad? How are they serviced or rebuilt? How can it effect the way the car performs? THANX
Yes torque coverters can go bad. the internal fins can break away and this makes it less effective. Its pretty standard that when a shop rebuilds your trans, they replace the converter. While the engin is out, this is a good oportunity to replace it with a stall converter if you have a warmer engine, if that what you want.
Yep, if you have a cam or other mods that mean you are producing power higher up in the rev range, and the detriment of low end torque, you may need a stall converter. Lets not go into the details here though, do a search through this section, or any of the tech sections, im sure its a topic that been done to death.
