V6Stang -> What Can You Do To A 3.8L?? (7/16/2003 12:11:30 AM)

What mods are there to do for a 3.8L V6 Mustang? I got a 2000, and i've been looking around but everything seems to only apply to the V8s. Can anyone help me?

You can do anything to that motor as you can to any internal combustion gasoline engine.

Just that some if it may have to be custom made.

yeah i have a 3.8 and i have dual exhaust, intake set up with k&n filter and i lowered my car with eibach prokit.  bbk and mac both make good cold air intakes and there are many dual exhaust kits out there for v6's and also u can get headers and throttle body.

you will be happy with whatever you do.

I know this is a dumb question, but basically I'm new to the 'Stang I've got and I have a strange cold starting problem where it was suggested that I replace the MAF (or mass air meter) by the dealer as a result of testing when they were doing a transmission maintenance I also needed.... That being said, at the dealer the maf was some $260 or something, I found the same part (or comparable :) for 65 bux @ Advanced Auto Parts (I think that's the place) and wanted to swap the intake altogether with a K&N FIPK at the same time.

I had them order the parts, picked them up today on the way home and open the box and it is K&N part 57-2511:

1995
FORD
Mustang
AUTO
5.0L V8 F/I
57-2511
FIPK
All

Now, if I search K&N's site, they don't have a FIPK for the V6... Will this kit work with my V6, or did I just end up buying something that I need to take back in the morning? Any help appreciated!

Rey :)

That's cool, all I want to do primarily is get that cold morning start problem resolved, thought I'd be able to pop a new intake on at the same time... On the other hand, the car runs fine after it starts and idles down normally, just that when it is parked outside and is started, it idles down to where it wants to die... Just that one time... Then it is all ok again after it sputters up again or is re-started.

In either event, thanks for the reply! I now officially replaced the maf @ 65 bux or so plus tax versus the $350 it would have taken at the dealership! We'll see if that doesn't do the trick. In either event, this is a pretty cool forum, I've browsed it since I got the 'Stang, and there are a lot of answers here! Thanks again!

Rey :)
