Default Wiring harness? Shaker to Pioneer?

Hi all

When I update shortly I think I will need a wiring harness to fit a pioneer avic-z1, does anyone know where I might be able to pick one up? I currently have the Shaker 500.

Thank you

Best Buy/ Circuit City and decent audio store in your area should carry a harness that just clips into the factory harness and connects to your new deck. No cutting and splicing is required which makes the swapout a breeze. As long as you know the model number for the new head unit you will be able to find a harness easily

Do a google search on "metra wiring harness" for a bunch of on-line stores. Assuming the plugs are the same in the UK version, you want model 70-5521.

I know this post is pretty old, but if you're still out there... Did that harness work directly for the Shaker 500 system? I mean did it keep all the factory amps working and everything?

SHWEEEET! I feel as if a huge wieght has been lifted from my chest!! Or maybe my wallet... as the install would have been around $200, I'm told. Total installation cost now is my personal hourly rate.... $0 (rate only available to... well, me).

Well, the Metra kit sort of works. It's far from plug and play, and will still require minimal splicing, especially if you plan on using the stock amps and subs. I would suggest the wiring harness from Crutchfield. Furthermore, the Pioneer unit will send a 12V remote signal to the amps when the car starts up. The amps expect a 5V, so the subs will pop every time you turn it on. You'll need a voltage 5 volt voltage regulator installed on the remote wire to prevent this from happening.

Also, the unit requires the ILL wire to be installed to make sure that it will go into night mode when you flip on the lights (otherwise day mode will always be on which can be blinding at night). They removed that wire from the wiring harness for anything after 2005 I think. I grabbed a feed off of the connector to the emergency light switch on the console. I forget which pin, but if you turn your lights on and off you can find it with a multimeter (0V when off and 12V when on).

The last problem is that the car uses a CAN-bus system so you can't grab a direct speed pulse from any of the interior electrical systems. You'll want this pulse to make the navigation more accurate (it will run without it, just not as well). This requires you run a wire to the engine compartment and tap into the Blue/Yellow wire just before the PCM. I had mine professionally installed at first (was free with the purchase of the unit), and they didn't hook up any of the stuff I mentioned correctly. Spent the next week figuring out the rest of this stuff.

I'd be happy to answer any questions in more detail (I know the above is just a blitz of information).

Default RE: Wiring harness? Shaker to Pioneer?

I'm in the process of replacing my Shaker 500 HU with a Pioneer P8000BT. It's a new unit with all the latest connections (USB, built-in BT, IPOD, etc.) Don't need the nav or DVD so I went with this just released model. I'm adding XM butkeeping the stock speakers for now.

I'm puttingthe wiring harness togetherfollowing instructionsfrom this board (inc 5V regulator). Ihaveseveral questions:
1. The Metra 70-5521 has an extra blue wire in the large connector. It's next to the orange/white wire. Can't find info anywhere about this wire, evenCrutchfield's/Metra's instruction sheet omits the wire.
2. The yellow/black Mute wire in the Pioneer harness won't be used in my setup? (With no DVD I'm not doing the speed bypass obviously)
3.The Metra harness has the orange/white illumintation wire. This splices directly into thethe Pioneer harnessILL wire. That should take care of the day/night issues, correct?
4.Clarify the sub hookup. If I'm reading correctly the Shaker 500 uses one sub amp for both doors; therefore, Ionly need to hookup one of the RCA jacks. Either one? Or is red or white preferred? The other just dangles behind the dash I suppose.

Thanks in advance for the help.
