Default 351 stroker

so ...

if i was to build a 351 with a 427 stroker motor in it, run 8.5:1 CR, and 9psi of boost through a Vortech, how much HP could i figure on getting? i know there is a lot of variable in this like heads and cams, etc. but i'm looking at trying to build a combo to be a good daily driver and still lay down around 500 rwhp. think that is feasable?

500 rwhp is easily reachable as long as you don't choke the motor.

As long as you keep the compression down and the boost set around 10-12 you should have no issues. Just make sure you have a good cooling system. Replace the stock radiator.

Maybe others that know more than I can jump in here but im thinking a 427 is pushing it a bit... It seems to me you could achieve your goal with a 408 and be a little bit more conservative... just my .02... oh, btw the 408 makes a wonderful daily driver...

My combo is a 351\ 383. I was going to do a 408 w\ the vortech but my engine builder said for reliability purposes to go with the 383. He said the stroke is too long when combined with the blower using a small block. It wouldn't last near as long with the 408. I would think a 427 would slide the reliability scale even further towards disaster waiting to happen. It may be a good idea to look at a big block.

I am at 9.2:1 comp at 14psi but am also running propane so the octane is higher than pump gas. My old 306 combo had 8.5:1 using a standalone fuel system and I still lifted a corner of one of the head gaskets while running 14psi on the street. That was with 94 in the tank at all times.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the replys guys ... i want to stay with the 351 and not go to the big block due to weight issues. randy, your build sounds very close to what i'm looking for and matty thanks for the tips your engine builder gave you ...

that being said i may be considering a 383 or 408 build. would you guys suggest getting a kit or a short block and who who you recommend getting it from?

Over on the corral user name Eagle is offering sweet deals on forged 383 kits, low compression for blower apps for $999.
