First car was a 67 stang. First ticket 99-55. Second ticket 88-55. Third Ticket 77-55. ( I was improving) I paid my own insurance, and learned to do my own repairs (heck, I had to- all my money went to insurance) I still have that car. When I die, they are going to have to dig one hell of a big grave, cause we are going under together.

There is a freshman at my school who is rich as ****. I'm talking a $15,000,000 house. His dad has a Phantom, Ferarri Spyder, Aston Martin DB9, and a Maserati.

LOL my GT would be like a Z06 for him.

*The funny thing is he doesn't even really like cars...

mvm549, due to the fact mustangman doesn't have his license yet. All I can say is be careful as I totaled my first 4 banger when I was 16 (sadly).

First car was a 90 Ford bronco, had it for like 3 months, then right before my 17th birthday got a 1999 Mustang V6. 23rd Birthday got a 06 GT woot! :)

Thats funny

My "first" car was a 1990 Bronco Eddie Bauer edition. It was really my dads but I drove it for 6 months. Now my real first car I bought is a 2000 GT Vert which I purchased from my dad which I just officially got this week. I turn 18 in two weeks.

My dad got an 06' GT Vert, and that thing is a beast. Amazing how much of a difference between 2000 and 2006. I love his new car. He just got it today, I drove it around the block a few times learning stick.

Im still loving my 00' GT much better than the Bronco. The 351 Clevland in the Bronco was awesome tho, 5.8l of American goodness and 10mpg to match

it's been said again and again...
experience builds responsibility....and experience comes with age and life in general...
16 is NOT enough years...
NO ONE (ok no MALE) under 20years of age will treat this car with respect to keep themselves their passengers and ther drivers safe...i've yet to see it...

i willl def. say there is something to be said for those that actually have to work for and on their own cars paying their own pay...that makes it a different ballgame...and I don't mean kids that have a $1k/month allowance and use that to pay for their car and say they bought it themselves...knew lots of kids like that in highschool...1 of which killed his passenger in his 89 GT...then bought another new GT after that...parents paid for both...

at 16 i had a 2.2L '94 S-10 p/u truck 5 speed...
any chance i got i was dumping the clutch and speeding and running offroad...all the dumb crap that 16 year olds do...

i don't care what these 16 and 17 year old KIDS are saying on MF, or in front of their parents or anyone else. Once they're alone on the road, or worse yet with a friend or two in the car they WILL do things that are illegal/dangerous/irresponsible...

but what 16 y/o kid wouldn't want this car?
because of this I blame the parents 100%!!
even if by some chance the kid can completely afford to purchase this car by the sweat of his own brow...the parents still shouldn't allow it.

my kid 20 years or so from now will drive the same car as I did...a 30 year old '94 S-10 2.2L p/u truck!

This should make the teenagers feel better, but I'm 26 and I already wrenched my back end on a curb. All I can say is me, RWD and the first rain in 143 days do not play well together.

That's right, you only live ONCE, so why kill yourself or somebody else driving like a jackass. We've all been there, dude. That's all we're saying. Whether or not my future kids think I am a "d-bag" for looking out for their well being is irrelevant. I know I'm wasting my time by even typing this, because I wouldn't have listened to any of this crap when I was your age, so I don't expect you to now. You'll find out on your own. I've seen a whole bunch of people who thought they were badasses wreck cars with people ending up hurt/killed. That's forever, man.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there.

Even at the age of 15 1/2 I am well aware of the dangers of owning a mustang, let alone a GT. I know when I go out alone i'm going to get the urge to just mash the pedal, and I probably will sometimes, but never will I ever put anyones else's life in danger of my trying to have "fun".

Let me tell you what has happened to me since 5th grade (those of you who have read about my outstanding grades will be completely shocked so brace yourself).

5th grade- My brother is racing a friend on a street and he loses control of his BMW. He wakes up the next day in the hospital with 4 shattered ribs, a coloapsed and bruised lung, and a brocken shoulder. Had the light pole that he hit went 2 inches further up the car he would have died on the spot.

6th grade- I start to lose interest in school and start getting all C's.

7th grade- I start hanging around all the wrong kids, and over the summer a "friend" and I go spraypaint two of our teachers houses.

8th grade- First day of school, someones tells on us (if they didnt tell I would probably be stoned or dead right now) and I get expelled.

9th grade- I go to Mater Dei and get my life straightened out, and start bringing my grades up to almost all A's.

Now- Last semester I got a 4.2 GPA and didn't get one detention.

Well after reading that you will think that I proved your point about my parents being out of their minds. The reality is though that I went from being the perfect child to my parents grounding me for 6 months, but now I am back to where I was so many years ago.

My point is that after all the trials I have been through and after completely losing my parents trust, I have made a successfull comback and my parents are proud that I went from being an almost drug addict to being able to get into almost any college of my choice. Heck I told my parents that I would be so freakin' excited if I was able to get a late model V6, and they just decided that I was mature enough to have the GT, and to have the 06 Stang'.

So hell, if I can go from where I was in 7th grade to getting a 4.2 GPA in one California's best schools, I think I can be mature enough to not ruin the Mustang name by doing stupid and sensless acts of enjoyment.

I'm sorry, but you're dead wrong.

And nobody on this board has the right to judge whether or not someone has the right drive a mustang at age 16. Obviously, statistics show the younger you are the more likely you are to have an accident, but not every teenager falls into that category. Its up to the parents to decide whether or not they're mature enough for 300 horses, because I'm sure no parents buy a car with the intention their kid will kill themself in it.

Good luck to you all with your cars. I think we have done what we can on a computer forum. This will be in the back of their minds, now, at least. Maybe that will help a little.

I don't belive you can stereotype all 16 and 17 yr old drivers,I have seen alot of accidents people of all ages.

Do I think getting a new driver a V8 300 HP car is the best idea? NO,and it has nothing to do with there age level,it has to do with experience,I have seen 16 yr olds act like 30 yr olds and 30 yr olds act like teenieboppers,to me a parent that buys a car like that for a new driver is not thinking clearly, for one he or she is on you insurance,if something goes bad you are in for it,buy buy house, savings, ect, ect compound that fact that buying a high HP car for a kid will be used in court, not a guess on my part, I have seen it used as a case foundation many times in a wrongful death suit. Don't belive me? Go to your public library and look under case law dealing with it,there will be transcipts also in there.

I give little talks and drinking and driving, street racing ect ect at high schools around here I can tell ya most think it's a joke and the picts I show cool,ya till your the one cut in half or in jail being turned into a bitch becuse they thought it was cool to do stupid stuff with there car.

My advise take it or leave it,it's your life(same thing I say in schools here)

Take your new car to an empty parking lot, nice big one with no pot holes, when it's raining, snowing and dry, learn to controll it in a skid and recover,if the police show up be honest, tell them what your doing and why, most will understand at worst chase you out, better yet have one of your parents with ya,if you run your mouth off at the cop then your asking for a fine.

If you are going to street race(any 16 yr old with a Stang or a high HP car will so don't try to say you don't) and just cannot help yourself feeling to need to be stupid, try to use that gray matter beween your ears, don't do it on a crowded street or highway, make shure it's empty and smooth and lots of room,do not go over your comfort level.

If your going to do under age drinking or any drinking for that matter(MY opion if your old enough to drive and join the military you should be able to drink) do not drive even if it's one beer, somthing happens even though it's not your fault it can turn into your fault real fast just on one beer, the cops are just one hurtle to go over, now the insurance companys are going to be on ya.

In bad weather go slow as slow as you want, thats what the right hand lane is for,who cares if the moron behind you want's to go flying down the high way he can pass you if he want's and take the chance of wrecking his car.

Speaking for myself when I scrape up a DWI/DWi or a street racer I feel no pity for them, they rolled the dice and took there chances, the real shame is the person who gets killed for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My first car was a 64 Rambler Classic.. and a great car... I ran off of the road with it twice the first 6 months driving (too fast on curves!).

Good thing I had THAT car... because it was a solid tank.. it just plowed through bushes, mailbox's and road signs like a lawn mower through the grass!..

My son who is now 20... totaled 3 cars and wrecked two his first two years of driving. He has no car right now because none of his friends or family will let him borrow theirs, and he has a heart attack when he gets his Insurance estimate on a car he is thinking of buying.

If I had let him drive my mustang - he probably would be dead now!

and NO.... now that he is 20 he still isn't allowed to drive my Mustang!

My first car as my parents old 1985 Toyota Camry. WACH OUT NOW!!! 115HP Coming at ya! And that was downhill with the wind and the AC off. But i was never a crazy driver, then soon after i got a 2000 GT VERT and now my 2006 GT VERT. I think young kids can drive cars with 400 HP just fine as long as they dont try and show off but most of the kids do show off.
