Default i need mids

Wow
So i picked up an Eclipse head this weekend popped that baby in. and first try through i started getting the worst possible sound out of the rear speakers and door speakers.
so after some playing with the wires i know have my door tweaters and my rear tweaters working and my subs.
my buddy at circuit city is telling me the best option is going to be picking up some new component speakers and wirign them in fresh to the head.
Is this my only option at this point to get some decent sound?
