my car is sitting pretty high up...It's a 97 V6 and it looks like there is about 3 inches between the wheel and the fender. My question is, if I were to put say 18 inch wheels on it, would that diminish most of that gap or would it remain the same size and look even more ridiculous? Also I want to look into dropping my car about 1.5 inches but can't seem to find any springs for my car at a good price. Mainly my concern is to make that gap between the wheel and fender (mostly at the top, not so much sides) disappear. I just am wondering if i should go with new rims and tires or new springs (which i hear will shorten the lifespan of my shocks) but thats not too bad i suppose...oh ya i have 15 inch rims right now.
If I were you I would go with the Eibach pro kit plus system. You get the pro kit springs (1.5" drop), shocks/strus, front and rear anti-sway bars. Not only does this lower your car but dramatically improves your cornering ability and ride quality. Kit runs about 850 dollars.
Changing to 18 inch rims will not change the gap at all. When you move to a bigger rim, you are now plus sizing the tires, so the overall diamter does not change...
Infact, when you move to a larger rim, the gap may look even worse!!
I would definitely go with a 1.5 inch or more drop if you're concerned about the wheel gap. Springs that will do this are the Eibach Pro-Kit, H&R Sport Springs, Eibach Sportline, etc.
Springs should be accompanied by new shocks when possible...
my only problem is that I live in southern Ontario Canada and we do get snow, and in result **** roads making a lowered car a potential problem seeing as a have no winter beater.
I figured though if i had larger tires and rims that it WOULD in fact make the fender gap smaller because if you look at the centre of the rotor, and measure say 18 inches across it opposed to the 15 inches, and it would then definitely diminish that gap.
Well larger rims again wont make a difference. If you did get larger tires you'd also have to get a larger % sidewall, which would throw off your speedometer.
The "norm" is to plus size your tires properly so that the outside tire diamter is identical...
