I bought the car over the internet from a jerk in Michigan who totally misrepresented the car. The car has no exhaust on it currently, except for a crummy looking bent up downpipe that is just hanging there rattling. Anyways, the car starts RIGHT up and idles. BUT it has less power than a non-turbo 4 banger stang. It revs SUPER slow and takes much effort to get it to the upper RPMs. I mean it takes forever to rev it to 6,000 RPMs. I have to give launch at 3,000 RPMS or more just to get the thing to move and not bog down...and it barely gets out of its own way. I am not even sure if the boost gauge works, but it barely moves up if it does get to 0-1 at all. I could live with all the other crap the guy lied about ...but the car is not even drivable. Pathetic. What should I try first to remedy the problem? The only thing I have done so far is put some fuel system cleaner in it, and fill it up with premium unleaded fuel. I planned on changing out the spark plugs, (they seem like a bitch to get to though)...and maybe changing the wires and distributor cap/rotor. Could the turbo be locked up and causing it to run like crap?

Doesn't sound like your turbo is working but, it should move a little better than that if it doesn't. Are the brakes locked up? or a E brake sticking? I'd check that out first.

i'm not sure about that because it's making such low boost (if any). if the brakes were on, the motor would have a tremendous load and it would be boosting very well probably. i would probably consider taking off the inlet tube before the turbo to look at it and check for any shaft play. it sounds like the turbo might be shot to me, but i could be way off

does your car give off any black smoke from the exhaust?

Changing plugs is E-Z. Hardest one to reach is #4. Try checking the fuel filter to make sure its flowing well.Don't beat your head in.

SOunds like a turbo problem to me. Pull off te inlet tube and make sure it spins free, be carful when touching the vanes as so not to bend or damage them. Other than that a tuneup couldnt hurt, make sure you replace the fuel filter right along with it.

One thing I forgot to add, while you have the inlet tube off, also inspect the vanes of the turbo for damage, it will be pretty obvious as chunks would be missing. Also, do a compression test on it make sure the motor isnt half fried. As turbo cars dont usually blow up, they melt down. By the way, I beleive thats a garret T-3 thats on there if it does need replacing.

sounds like the turbo is messed up. if you dont have an exhaust, id pull everything off from around the turbo and check it. see if it spins. as for the plugs, just undo the turbo hoses goin to the intercooler, then undo the two bolts on the back and the two bolts on the front of the intercooler and pull the intercooler off. its like a 10 min job total to change the plugs. just did mine last week on my 84 SVO. and as for power. id check the calipers. i had to replace all four on mine. best way to check: lift the car up enough so the wheels you want to check dont touch the ground. a few inches works. try to spin the tires. they should spin with just a few fingers. if not, take the tires off and check the caliper. all four of mine were frozen. i had the same problem, had to revv high to get it to just roll. let us know what happens. good luck

I would check the turbo, a slow to not turning turbo just creates a large resistance in the exhaust which could explain all symptoms.
