Default accelerator pump question

I have a Carter AFB Competition Series 4-barrell carb on my engine, and I think that the accelerator pump is old and broken. I went to the local parts store and they didn't have the pump plunger that went with my carb, they only had it if you bought the whole rebuild kit. I picked up an Edelbrock pump plunger from the shelf and compared it with the one in the kit. They looked pretty much the same, so I went ahead and bought it, do you think it will work? I'm gonna put it in,I'll tell how it works out.
