I talked to a guy the other night who has a 1999 Z28 Camaro, and he was listing off his mods, and he said something that sounded totally wierd to me, but I'm pretty sure it's true, because he seemed to know what he was talking about. He said that he had some kind of water injection kit on his car. Now I've heard of a lot of stuff, but not this one. I didn't get into much detail with him, all that was said was that it was actual water that was injected somewhere into the motor. Can someone help me out with this one? What is he talking about? What does this kit do? This may be a stupid question, but I sure want to know what he's talking about! Thanks!

I think that what he may be talking about is the vortec supercharger, which is water cooled, but as far as injecting water I don't know how that would work, last time I checked injecting water = motor death. Unless he is talking about the radiator running water and coolent to keep the engine from overheating. If you do find out though deffinatly post it cause that is interesting.

Yeah, I considered the idea about an intercooled s/c, but he doesn't have a supercharger. And I agree, I thought water in the motor wasn't good. lol I have no idea what he's talking about.

Okay guys. Water injection is a viable laternative to lowering compression ratios when running boost. A small amount of water run through the engine under hard loads cools the mixture a bit and prevents detonation. It used to be a popular thing in tow vehicles, pickups and such. Not really needed on most cars, unless you were pulling a tailer up a mountain all day. It gets the carbon build up out of the engine as well, a nice little benefit. I'm not BS'in you at all. It was really done at one time. Modern fuel injection and engine management have almost eradicated the concept.

I've got and old Edelbrock water injection kit at home,it uses a sensor for rpm and vacuum to tell it when to inject water into the intake,it used a windshield washer pump for the water and came with a little resevior.

if modern fuel injection has eraticated it then why does a 99 Z28 have one?

You can use it to cool the intake temperature and run a more advanced spark map.

It cleans your motor out a lot as well.

I'd personally rather use alcohol injection, but water remains popular because you can get distilled water almost anywhere.

Alcohol is better because it helps act as an octane booster as well, and is combustable. Makes more sense to me to put something that has these two additional attributes into my motor.

Some say yes, some say no.

I say no. It cools the air intake, which gives power, ups the octane rating, which allows a better spark advance, which gives power, and fights off detonation, which kills your motor.

Just always check it and make sure you don't run out if your motor depends on it to keep from detonating.
