I need so advice, my bro just got a camaro, I'll be racing him but who will win?
Me:
2003 V6 Auto
Diablo Sport Tuned
True Dual Flowmaster 40's
MotoBlue underdrive pullies , 42% crack pulley, 5% water pulley
BBK ColdAir intake
Him:
STOCK Manual 3800 V6

He'll win because the auto looses way more hp to the rear wheels than a maunal. Now here's how to win as I noticed you have a tuner. Before you race, raise your idel rpms to 1200 rpms, this will give you 100% better off the line time, then raise your shift pressure to 30psi, Harv has his set to 40psi, but that ones up to you on how firm you want your shifts, then set your shift points to 4750 rpms because you'll always shift 500 rpms later than what you should while in the WOT, don't ask me why, but you do. Then set your WOT shift firmness to 120. If you do these mods, you "SHOULD" be able to beat his ass. Also, raising your spark advance by 2% or so wouldn't hurt, but be sure your're running 93 octane in there, but don't go any higher than 2% because you could wind up loosing hp, and could hurt your stock spark plug wires.

thANKS for the advice man, keep the good stuff coming!
Here is my current diablo tune:
Removed speed limiters
Raised the RPM limiter to: 5800
Part throttle shift firmness 30 psi
WOT throttle shift firmness 100 lbs

You've got him without those mods, IDK what Jthorn is saying. I ran a manual '98 Camaro RS that is driven by a kid that goes to my school, so you should be fine with those mods.

I'm thinkin it's a drivers race..Up the shift firmness on part throttle to 80 psi. Raise the rev limiter to 6250 rpm, like mine. I've taken 3.8 Crapmaros...
Whyat advantage he has wit the manual is deleted by being heavier.

Yea that's a start, raise that WOT firmness to 120, or mild shift, and you'll do good, don't forget to raise that idel rpm setting, if I drop mine back to stock I go from, 0-60 in 8.7s, to 0-60 in 9.5+seconds, it will make a drastic improvement in your off the line time and no, it doesn't cause you to burn that much more gas, maybe 1-3 gallons more, per tank, but it will cause you to ride the break in traffic or 25 mph zones.

must have been a 3.4, 3.8s are quick, weather its a 5 speed or 4L60-E auto, pretty much same times, and with a shift kit the 4L60-E is 100 times better then the stick.
im calling a drivers race.

That auto trans is what will kill your launch. I have raced my sons G/F's 03 V6 auto trans Camaro with my 03 V6 auto trans Stang with my son driving the Camaro. I smoke the Camaro, but the Camaro is all stock and I have 4:10 gears and a high stall converter amongst a few other things.
Bottom line, a V6 Stang is a commuter car and the gears and auto trans is a dog untill you change the set up make it quick. I can pull on small V8's just with my drive train mods and I haven't even touched the engine yet, just to give you an idea of how important gearing and auto trany changes are. Your Diablo Sport already put you above the curve, now do your gearing and stall converter and you'll be amazed.
In your case, he will take you off the line, but if the run is long enough, you'll catch him.

I thought if you break torqued it would allow you to easily keep up with a manual at the start. This website explains it (http://www.modernracer.com/tips/dragracinglaunchtechniques.html) Dont shoot me if I'm wrong, I havent even started driving yet, not until March 20th. I'll be driving a stock 2002 Mustang, but I plan on doing some visual upgrades before I do any performance stuff.

The 3800s make about 200 hp stock, and the 3.8 makes 190. It's a driver's race because I believe the Camaro is a little heavier. Everyone I talk to says the V6 Camaro is faster than the V6 Stang, but in my experience, that is not true.

Same here I have smoked many V6 camaros and firebirds. they arent even worth posting about... But with your auto if you were stock I would say he will beat you. But since you have a tuner you can adjust that auto. I would say that you will kick his a** pretty good. Have fun and be safe

it could be a Y87 with 3.42's
even at that my 97 has 3.08's and has never lost to even a lightly modded splitport.
99% of the time it is a drivers race but the F-body has a huge advantage being a 5spd and could be even more if it does have 3.42's

In your case, he will take you off the line, but if the run is long enough, you'll catch him.
when did they make '03 camaro's?
Um... in 2003, dumbass........[8D]
Sorry, I had too!
oh they did now. thanks for letting me know sh!t head. just to let you know, the stopped making the camaro in 2002, but i'm sure you knew that since you have a wealth of knowledge.
Easy there killer...he was being sarcastic...hence the [8D]
your right that makes it all better (that was sarcastic)
Geez..get a sense of humor...
well if your sense of humor consists of calling people assholes, i'm sorry i don't have one.

well this is my take on it i used to own a 99 3.8 automatic camaro rated at 200 hp i raced a v6 mustang once on the interstate and pulled about half a car on it mine all i had was a k&n and a flowmaster catback back when i was 16 i thought it was fast as hell though but i go the strip alot and ive seen a 00 5spd camaro run between a 9.9-10.2 one night ive seen a 05 v6 mustang auto run the same times conistently i dont know much about the 99-04 v6's i rode in a 5spd once and it felt about as slow as my old camaro so id say this would be a close race but with your mods its possible for you to win
