This weekend I had three races as follows:

- Going to the store lined up next to an 06 Eclipse w/ a hottie driving. She didnt know jack about her car. Had rims, fart can, and Euros. We did a quick hit from a 5 mph roll and she got a car on me.

- 2002 Mustang GT. I was pretty happy about it. Guy was a punk and thought his GT is the fastest thing on the road. We finally get to line up at a light. It turns and I get a great launch. According to the following car, Cobalt LT, he was spinning the whole time. I slow down at 3500rpms and shift to second. At that point he takes off and gets about a half car lead. At that point I take off to play catch up and catch him by the end of second. Third he gains a foot and by the top of third and into fourth I am pulling hard and finally he shuts down w/ me about a car a head. I was stoked that I ran w/ a PI stang. ALthough I had the weight advantage and he only had it for a month.

- Brand new Cobalt LT. He knew he would get killed so we went from a 40 roll. I left him like he was still. Then for fun he flew by and flashed his four ways. hahahahaa Then we went again, and again I left him. Fun race but now I have to find an SS to try.

By the way, Fri. I got pulled over for doing two quick hits w/ a revving Avenger. THe cop left me go because
1. He said I was very polite and respectful
2. I ACTUALLY had the three things I was suppose to have: license, registration, and insurance proof
3. "Those muscle cars are real hard to keep down."
Told me to not do anymore stupid stuff and have a nice night. Good cop, I am thankful

That's pretty crazy, losing to a slower car ('06 Eclipse) but beating a faster car ('02 GT). Well, it sounds as though you had fun...

I was thinking the same thing.

The new ones are 265 hp. while I am only 225(nonPI in my car). I have some mods but at best I would be 240-245 hp at the flywheel. It was an Eclipse GT

Oh, I know they're numbers. I was just saying that the '02 GT with RWD and 260 bhp should be faster than an '06 Esclipse GT with FWD and 265 bhp. And a chick was driving it. That's the one you should've beat, not the 'Stang, that's all I was saying. Oh, well.

Eclipse GT
So close, sucks you lost though. I always thought they were kinda overrated like the RX-8 but I guess not so much as I hoped.

it seems that alot of people are reporting mid 14s with the new eclipse GT...the best that i have seen was a 14.1, but that was with a professional driver...

and you guys do understand things like a power to weight ratio, and the amount of drivetrain loss in a FWD compared to a RWD, right? the eclipse weighs about 3500lbs...the 96 GT is right around the same..no?

the 06 eclipse gt is about 3500lbs
the 96 mustang gt is about 3400lbs

ok....then factor in the weight of the drivers, how much fuel each was carrying at the time, etc...and the weight could easily be the same, and if it was a small chick in the eclipse compared to a large guy in the stang, the stang could easily be heavier.

plus, the drivetrain loss is higher in the RWD, so if anything, it would be a drivers race

Drivetrain loss is higher in RWD? Really? That I did not know? I figured it would be higher in FWD because of the way it's laid out...

Well, I mean the motor is in there all bass-ackwards and its closer to the wheels and there's less travel space to transmit it to the wheels [8D]

I'm just not a FWD fan. They're fun in economy cars that weigh nothing and have nice e-brakes for slides, but that's about it...

think about it this way...every ounce of weight added anywhere in the drivetrain causes increased effort by the motor just to turn the wheels, let alone move the car. if we just look at the weight behind the transmission of a RWD car...the ujoints, the driveshaft, the internal workings of the rear diff, the axles, and then the wheels. your engine has all of that weight to turn before it puts any power to the ground, and that lost power is fairly high considering all of that weight. now, consider what is turned by the engine and transmission on a FWD car. the differential and transmission are in th same place. everything is maringally smaller, so lighter, and there is no driveshaft...just based on the lack of a driveshaft alone, the FWD system is turn less weight if everything else is the same, which is obviously is not.

I believe that I had a full tank of gas but I only weight about 140 lbs. LIke I said, it was a quick hit so no big deal. I was just really happy about the GT kill. I have run w/ them before but never like this. The guy only had his stang for about a month and was running his mouth so I had to take him out. The cobalt was the chaser car and said that he spun real bad off the line but I thought that he wasnt ready which is why I got off the gas and shifted so early. Otherwise, I would have been Gone.
